Teri Garr dead at 79 :(

Too soon.

Teri Garr played Phoebe's mother on Friends, and her passing makes her just the second Friends parent to have died, the other been the late Ron Leibman who played Rachel's father.

All of the other actors who played the parents of Friends characters; Marlo Thomas (Rachel's mother), Elliot Gould and Christina Pickles (Monica and Ross's parents), Bob Balaban (Phoebe's father), Robert Costanzo and Brenda Vaccaro (Joey's seldom seen parents) and Morgan Fairchild and Kathleen Turner (Chandler's parents) are all still alive at the time of posting despite their advanced ages in a number of cases.

Teri Garr was one of my favourite comedic actors. I loved her in Tootsie. Her Oscar nomination was well deserved. Her deadpan delivery at times was superb. Lived with MS for twenty years. That takes courage.

May her memory be for a blessing.

Denys Graham's calling in acting certainly seemed to be in war movies, and he even played Kaiser Wilhelm II in 'All Quiet on the Western Front' in 1979.

At age 98, Denys Graham wasn't the only UK actor that passed on at an advanced age on 29th October. The other was 99-year-old Nadia Cattouse - originally from Belize - and who also had a career as a pop singer in the 1950s and 1960s. One hopes very much that her family and friends didn't have a huge 100th birthday celebration planned for her this coming Saturday in which she would be presented with a letter from King Charles III congratulating her on her centenary, as she fell just four days short.

There's a number of late celebrities who are members of Club 99 - Bob Barker, Betty White, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Prince Phillip, Eddie Albert, Billy Graham, Joyce Randolph and Homer to name just some - but I don't recall anyone getting so close to turning 100 but falling short by less than a week.

Two former AFL players died within the last week.

One was 89-year-old Hugh Mitchell, a member of Essendon's 1962 and 1965 premiership winning teams over Carlton and St Kilda and also in the Bombers runner up teams that were trounced by Melbourne in 1957 and 1959. He had a successful career with Essendon, with 224 goals and a number of individual awards, but if the Bombers held a reunion for past premiership players there would be very few left now from those won back in 62 and 65.

The second was Alan Lynch who died on Tuesday at age 70 from Parkinson's Disease. A gifted athlete who found much success in the Stawell Gift, Lynch had a great career for Geelong West in the VFA, playing in the Roosters 1975 premiership team and later coaching the club, but his tenure in the VFL proved short. I'm going to go into more detail on the 'Unusual Short Playing Careers' thread, as Lynch played just one season 1976 at the top level - but for two different clubs - first Footscray and then Richmond, and he would meet Geelong twice once as a Bulldog and the other as a Tiger. There may well have been players who played just one season for two different clubs, but I would say this would have been in the early years of the league and during the two world wars, if indeed it happened at all. I can't think of any other cases of this happening from 1950 onwards.

Save yourself some confusion next year and put them all on your list
Not sure I'll play next year. Very morbid thread honestly
