Patton to debut for GIANTS

The updated GIANTS injury list is as follows:

Setanta O’hAilpin – season (ACL)
Liam Sumner 6 to 8 weeks (foot)
Josh Growden - 5 weeks (broken leg)
Jacob Townsend – 4 weeks (jaw)
Stephen Coniglio – 3 to 4 weeks (hand)
Stephen Clifton - 2 to 3 weeks (knee)
Rhys Cooyou – 2 to 3 weeks (groin)
Anthony Miles - 2 to 3 weeks (knee)
Dean Brogan - 1 week (elbow)

Available
Josh Bruce (back)
Israel Folau (hamstring)
Adam Kennedy (shoulder)
Ryhs Palmer (groin)

A few updates to the injury report with Folau (hamstring), Giles (calf) and Reid (shoulder) downgraded to out along with Townsend (jaw) and Coniglio (thumb).

Unfortunately Sam Reid's season has come to a premature end with news that he will undergo a shoulder reconstruction next week.

On a more positive note, Brogan (elbow) and Palmer (groin) are back for GWS and we should see Kennedy (shoulder) and Bruce (back) for UWS. Of course there's also #12 making his senior debut after successfully playing four matches with UWS in his rehab from pre-season knee surgery.

Any word on Clifton? Been looking forward to seeing him out there.
Injured his knee in his first game back from a fractured wrist (round 8); he looked set to be back this week or next but his timeline was pushed back out to 2-3 weeks in this weeks injury update. Hopefully he can stay on the park in the second half of the season and earn an AFL debut.

Round 13 update: http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/1914.html
Setanta O’hAilpin – season (ACL)
Liam Sumner 6 to 8 weeks (foot)
Josh Growden - 4 weeks (broken leg)
Jacob Townsend – 3 weeks (jaw)
Stephen Coniglio – 3 weeks (hand)
Rhys Cooyou – 2 weeks (groin)
Anthony Miles - 2 weeks (knee)
Dom Tyson - 2 weeks (shin)
Israel Folau - 1 week (back)
Tim Segrave - test (back)

Notably, Giles is off the injury list as is Clifton who will hopefully string some games together with UWS now.

Folau now listed as 1 week with a back injury, as can sometimes happen with hamstrings.

Some comments from John Quinn about Izzy's hamstring progressing to a back issue. Also notable is the quote that he may not come straight back into the AFL; it was almost expected that he'd have a run with UWS at some point in his first season but having missed 3 straight games through injury hopefully he can get back into the first team within a couple of weeks so we can see the Cameron/Patton/Folau forward line.

Just plane drained
ISRAEL Folau is the major victim of GWS's excessive travel this season after he was ruled out again this week, missing the Giants' Melbourne Cricket Ground debut against fellow strugglers Melbourne on Sunday.

With an unprecedented 10 return flights in their first 12 matches, after three during the pre-season, an excessive burden has been placed on the AFL's newest team.

Folau was a late withdrawal for the Giants first game at their new home, Skoda Stadium, against Essendon in round nine, with a minor hamstring strain. However, he has now missed more than a month with what GWS sports science manager John Quinn said had become a back problem.

"There's obviously something going on there," Quinn told The Daily Telegraph yesterday. "We treated him (for a hamstring strain) and everything seemed to be going all right, there were no symptoms at all, then he had a twinge in his back."

Quinn claimed Folau could have played on Sunday but had been overlooked as a precaution.

"He'll be available next week but from a sports science point of view I think we'd be recommending a conservative return for Izzy," said Quinn. "He might not come straight back and play AFL."

Round 14 update: http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/injury-update-round-14.html
Setanta O’hAilpin – season (ACL)
Sam Reid - season (shoulder)
Tim Segrave - indefinite (back)
Liam Sumner - 6 weeks (foot)
Josh Growden - 4 weeks (broken leg)
Jacob Townsend – 3 weeks (jaw)
Stephen Coniglio – 2 weeks (hand)
Rhys Cooyou – 2 weeks (groin)
Dom Tyson - 2 weeks (shin)
Anthony Miles - 1-2 weeks (knee)

Israel Folau - test
Sam Schulz - test

Folau listed as test after having his timeline pushed out by a week for the past couple of weeks. Schulz also test after dropping from the side for R13.

Miles, Coniglio and Sumner are all a week closer to returning. Tyson, Cooyou, Townsend, and Growden haven't progressed since last week and Segrave has been downgraded from test to indefinite.

http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/injury-update-power-and-shiel.html

Power and Shiel cleared of serious damage after scans on injuries sustained against the Swans. Power out 2 weeks with damage to rib cartilage following a collision, while Shiel has a sprained foot and will miss 3-4 weeks. It's a blow to lose either of that pair for any period of time, but with only 9 weeks remaining its a positive that they'll return this season as there were doubts following the match.

First real update we've had in about 4 weeks.

Coniglio, Cameron, Kennedy and Mohr listed as test.

As it turns out Mohr has missed two weeks with a groin injury. No mention of Patton so it's safe to assume that missing the Freo trip was his planned rest.

The GIANTS current injury list is:

Setanta O'hAilpin – season (ACL)
Sam Reid – season (shoulder)
Tim Segrave – season (back)
Rhys Cooyou – three weeks (groin)
Dom Tyson – one week (foot)
Liam Sumner – two weeks (foot)
Josh Growden – two weeks (foot)
Dylan Shiel – two weeks (foot)
Stephen Coniglio – test
Jeremy Cameron – test
Adam Kennedy – test
Tim Mohr – test (groin)

Conilgio and Cornes are back, test for a few again including Mohr and Tyson.

Growden also listed as test and may get a couple of games in the NEAFL to close out the year after being sidelined for the whole season with a broken leg.

Shiel still lingering around 2 weeks and they clearly won't be rushing him.

Dylan Shiel – two weeks (foot)
Liam Sumner – one week (foot)

They told us 4 weeks ago that Shiel would be 3-4, now it's another two. Doesn't sound good. Then again, I said at the time I thought it would be longer. You'd think that Tyson would come back via the magoos but Cornes and Cogs could slot straight back in.

3-4 weeks did seem generous, I guess at this stage of the season it's better to hold him out than push it and have something linger into the pre-season.

Agree on Tyson, I didn't realise it's been two months for him (last played round 10). Hopefully he'll be good for 2-3 senior games before the season is done.
