Games: 15

Votes: 79
Weighted average: 3.08
Best match: Rd 5 vs Port Adelaide – 1.33

The veteran defender played 15 games for the year, the most since 2009, and brought up his 100 game milestone against St Kilda mid-season, although he still had the obligatory run of soft-tissue injuries through the season. His best game came early in the season against Port Adelaide, and he had a reasonable last month, picking up votes in three of the last four games.

21st. Will Schofield

Games: 16
Goals: 7
Votes: 93
Weighted average: 3.53
Best match: Rd 18 vs Western Bulldogs – 1.16

The popular Schofield had to overcome a serious beard injury during the pre-season, and fell behind Mitch Brown in the pecking order early in the season. As a result he struggled for form, and spent some time up forward and a couple of weeks at East Perth, before his season was ended a week early by a cowardly idiot in a Geelong street. His best performance came in the loss to the Bulldogs, in the middle of a run of six straight games in which he picked up votes.

BOG performances: Rd 22 vs Collingwood

A stop-start season for the veteran wingman, who suffered a quad injury during the pre-season and missed more than a month of footy. After a few games with East Perth, he forced his way into the side for the round 7 match in Brisbane and acquitted himself well with 22 touches and a goal. After missing a stretch of games with a back injury, he returned to the side and was the Eagles’ best in the big loss to Collingwood.

Games: 9
Goals: 1
Votes: 144
Weighted average: 5.04
Best match: Rd 16 vs Fremantle – 1.46

Rookie midfielder Hutchings earned an AFL debut mid-season after strong form for West Perth. He managed 9 games all up and received votes in all of them, with his best showings coming against Essendon (24 disposals), Fremantle (19 disposals and an astonishing 16 tackles) and Gold Coast (25 disposals and his first goal). He was surprisingly dropped a couple of times and finished the year with the Falcons, where he won the Simpson Medal as best-on-ground in the WAFL grand final.

Games: 17
Goals: 15
Votes: 168
Weighted average: 5.15
Best match: Rd 15 vs Adelaide – 2.58

The former Brisbane Lion had his best season as an Eagle, playing 17 games as a wingman or high-half-forward and showing a knack of bobbing up for important goals. The unfashionable East Freo product played every game after the bye and had a good period in June, having his two best voting returns in back to back games against Essendon and Adelaide.

17th. Daniel Kerr

282275.jpg

Games: 10
Goals: 4
Votes: 175
Weighted average: 5.69
Best match: Rd 9 vs GWS Giants – 1.75

Last year’s Player of the Year had a delayed start to the season following knee surgery, making a rare appearance at East Fremantle before starting as the sub against Melbourne in round 3. Kerr had solid, vote-getting games against Carlton (21 disposals and a goal) and GWS (28 disposals, 10 clearances and a goal). Mid-year he suffered a rib injury and missed a couple of weeks, following which he was surprisingly made to earn a recall through the WAFL. After two more games for the Sharks and amidst talk that he was struggling to reach AFL fitness, he was sent in for knee surgery which ended his year.

16th. Mitch Brown

Games: 19
Goals: 0
Votes: 229
Weighted average: 7.34
Best match: Rd 5 vs Port Adelaide – 3.76
BOG performances: Rd 5 vs Port Adelaide

After expressing a strong but unfulfilled desire to become a Saint over the off-season, Brown responded in the best way possible, cementing his place in defence and signing a new multi-year deal. He was judged the Eagles’ best for his effort on an in-form Justin Westhoff in round 5, and also had good polling games against Richmond and Essendon.

15th. Mark LeCras

Games: 15
Goals: 30
Votes: 199
Weighted average: 8.30
Best match: Rd 4 vs Carlton – 3.00

Coming back from a knee reconstruction that wrote off his entire 2012 season, champion forward Mark LeCras had a horror start to 2013 when he fractured an arm midway through the opening-round derby. Remarkably, he missed just one match, but seemed hampered by his injured arm with his performances after that not up to his usual high standard. Late in the season he missed two weeks with a foot injury, and on his return against Essendon broke his ribs in a marking contest. He managed to kick 5 goals after breaking his ribs, but then missed the remainder of the season.

Games: 20
Goals: 28
Votes: 287
Weighted average: 8.68
Best match: Rd 10 vs Richmond – 3.00
The former Bulldog had another reasonable year in the forward line, kicking 28 goals to finish fourth in the club goalkicking and constantly working hard to put pressure on defenders in the forward 50. Hill kicked 3 goals on five occasions but his best game was against Richmond where he kicked 2 goals from 17 possessions (12 of them contested).

Games: 11
Goals: 8
Votes: 345
Weighted average: 10.29
Best match: Rd 9 vs GWS Giants – 3.43
BOG performances – Rd 8 vs North Melbourne, Rd 9 vs GWS Giants

Last year’s All-Australian ruckman had a nightmare start to the year, with groin surgery late in the pre-season keeping him out of action until round 6. After coming on as the sub and playing less than a half against the Bulldogs, he soon hit his stride, winning best-afield honours against North Melbourne (18 disposals, 6 marks and 20 hitouts) in round 8 and GWS (30 hitouts, 8 tackles, 2 goals) in round 9. His effort against the Roos included a memorable pack mark and after-the-siren goal to win the match, the first time an Eagle has ever done that. Unfortunately, the groin injury flared up and his output deteriorated quickly. After a few ineffectual games in a row, he was rested indefinitely and then packed up for the year when finals were no longer mathematically possible.

Games: 12

Votes: 410
Weighted average: 10.46
Best match: Rd 7 vs Brisbane – 3.39

West Coast’s chief playmaker off a back flank had a reasonable first half of the season, polling well in games against Brisbane, North Melbourne and St Kilda among others. Too many times, however, he was the subject of a hard tag by a defensive forward which limited his output. In the first game back after the bye he suffered a serious ankle injury that put a premature end to his season.

A couple of good guesses.

The players in the top 11 are (in alphabetical order, so I'm not accused of giving anything away): Cox, Darling, Gaff, Kennedy, MacKenzie, Masten, Naitanui, Priddis, S.Selwood, Shuey, Wellingham.

We'll knock off the next few a bit later this afternoon, after I try to get my entire day's work done in the next hour. Stupid slow-moving trade period.

Stay tuned.

I'll knock one out while we wait then...
