Biggest Album Let down?

I agree that it wasn't as good as 'good news for people who like bad news' but that is a fantastic album. When I first bought WWDBTSES, I was a bit disappointed but after a few listens it really grew on me. Still not as good as 'Good News' but not a bad album either.

it's got nothing on 'the moon and antarctica' either. it was a huge let down. but it was following two of my favourite albums of the past 10 years

Thats the problem, it was a good album but compared to their previous releases it just wasnt at their level. Saying that, the backing vocals from the guy from the shins was good and missed the boat is one of my favourite songs

St Anger - Metallica - Had waited so long and heard so much, was absoloute trash and am convinced they should give it away now

By the Way - RHCP - Please stop now, haven't heard all of Stadium Arcadium (Thank God) but decided to stay well away after that effort

Light Grenades - Incubus - One of my favourite bands but this album is crap, really didn't think they were possible of releasing something so bad.

No Code - Pearl Jam - Terrible album, really there only really poor effort.

Three that come quickly to mind are...

Skyhooks - Straight in a Gay Gay World
The Damned - Music for Pleasure
The Pixies - Bossonova

Admitedly all three albums had classic albums to follow up but it doesn't change the fact they were a let down (IMO anyway).

I would rate Bossanova right up there with Doolittle. I find it hard to separate any of them though, and even love Trompe le Monde.

Also, a weird one but Live's best of. I feel that a lot of the songs that made their best of aren't that good, its more a compilation of the singles. My favourite two Live songs are "meltdown" and "the damn at otter creek" and they didn't get a mention, as did a few others i love.

That's typically what a Best of is.

After the mindboggling brilliance of their 1st 5 (6 if you count Live After Death) albums, words couldn't describe my utter despairing disappointment upon hearing Iron Maiden's 'Somewhere in Time' in 1987. Something died that day....

You're a harsh man... Love that album!

For mine, Metallica's Load hands down! Waited 5 or 6 years for the follow-up to the (IMO) brilliant black album for this garbage???:thumbsdown:

Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly, Angry Mob.

Thought the first album had a pretty good sound and showed some potential. Then they turned gay.

Typical Leeds fans

Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants. Some great songs for sure but a lot of average and even mediocre stuff too. I absolutely loved WTSMG but this was a massive let down.

Beastie Boys' "Hello Nasty". After a run of albums as good as Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication, it broke my heart how much this album sucked.
Oh yes.

Foo Fighters' One By One. All My Life was a killer lead off single, but it was an ruse. The rest of the album bar 1 or 2 ok tunes blew chunks.
And +1 on this as well.

Add Radiohead's Kid A to this list. OK Computer was brilliance and The Bends was just effing genius, but Kid A just left me cold.

Rise Against's latest album, Appeal to Reason is an absolute shambles. :(

Slowly but surely since RPM they have become another run of the mill rock band but at least Siren Song . . . and the sufferer and the witness actually some strong tracks. Siren Song was still a good album and Suffer good enough but cant believe what I am hearing with the newie.

Listening to Revolution Per Minute at the moment to remind myself how good they once were. And **** were they good.

I'm probably give it a few more spins to see if its a grower simply because it's Rise Against but that first listen was very underwhelming.
