That was actually the second in a row iirc. Fremantle had played Geelong at Kardinia Park the previous week and were leading by five goals in the last quarter only to lose when the final siren went.
not really, Sydney had Hawthorn's measure for most of the day, had they actually lost, it would have been one hell of a choke-job by Sydney after leading by as many as 28 points at one stage in the game.
What's the difference between a massive choke and a great come back?
According to BF, nothing. What's the difference between a massive choke and a great come back?

Idiot. We lead by 18 points late in the game. They took every chance that came their way, we stuffed up nearly everything.not really, Sydney had Hawthorn's measure for most of the day, had they actually lost, it would have been one hell of a choke-job by Sydney after leading by as many as 28 points at one stage in the game.
There's a much more recent one than that..the Bombers were leading by 48 points at the G and the Blues stormed home for a comfortable win on the back of Fev kicking 8...i remember it well as i was there .I can't really recall it, but an Essendon vs Carlton game back in the 80's. Bombers were down by 4-5 goals with approx 5 minutes left. The Bombers won.
That would have to be a fair choke.
Aslo just missing lots of shots and set shots on goal is a bit chokish.
Hawthorn finished top of the ladder and were red hot favourites for the flag.

19 minute mark of the last quarter, Collingwood up by 23 points.
North kick 5 consecutive goals to win by 6 points.
Haha don't remind me...
Very interesting to look at Freo's team from that week - only 7 who played are still on our list, only 5 are playing this week (Crowley, Ibbotson, Johnson, McPharlin, Mundy) - with Sandi and Pav on the sidelines.
Essendon last year losing their last 7 after storming out of the blocks early in the season
North Melbourne leading Essendon by 69 points in the 2nd qtr only to lose by 12 points.
Richmond 1981 - present.
