I like that fact that we are playing Rankine in the middle but I hope he always starts forward and then we throw him in the centre when the other midfielders aren’t getting it done. He so creative in out forward half and don’t want to lose that.
The great thing is hearing is that our Coaches are training the players to have a lot of so flexibility, Blighty loved that and throw players around when things weren’t working. Looking forward to a big you from us

Surely it should be a priority, it unsettles the opposition for match ups

Don't mind a bit of unsociable football. When it's my team that is...

Remember years back when the crows finally showed some mongrel in a game, everyone was ecstatic, saying how good it was to see that from the club. Then Neil Craig called a press conference to say how disappointed he was to see that from the players :tearsofjoy:.

Why would we wait to use our best and most skilled player in the middle until we are potentially 4 or 5 goals down? I think we really should be looking at Izak in the same way we looked at Andy McLeod (although Izak has a way to go, but he is at Andy's skill level). You want your best and most creative burst players around the ball as often as possible. Rachele can start forward and then Pedlar can drift forward to rotate with him.

bigman - As someone who attends so many trainings and has such a good eye - I was just curious to get your thoughts on the overall fitness level of the squad and if Burgess is doing anything 'elevated' with the squad this year compared to previous years?

This is his 3rd preseason with our squad now. Be interesting to see if we have started to go up a gear now our squad is a little more mature and he has had em for 3 years.
AFC prior to Xmas was definitely the hardest running I’ve seen under burgess. The final session from what I was told was ridiculously hard.

Since the break the running has definitely eased off, it’s mostly football work with a little bit of running chucked in. Lately there’s been virtually none, at least at aami anyway. Apparently they do running sessions on Saturdays.

I think they’re the fittest I’ve seen in a while, probably since 2017. Some are bigger (max, chayce, filthy, billy) while some are a little leaner (berry, murphy, crouch, even dawson). The good thing is that there aren’t any obvious weak links in fitness other than Taylor prior to Xmas, but he’s definitely picked up in that regard and has been keeping up well in whatever running they’ve done.

Over the last 3 years we've all been wondering when the Wall will hit Tex, and each year he keeps on performing (TBH he seems to be improving which is miraculous).

With what you've seen in Pre-season, do you think the Wall hits this year, or do you think he has a full season of Benjamin Buttoning still to come?

Personally I hope the late career resurgence continues. I know it might potentially slow the development of a few Key forwards around him. But IMO it’s not his job to give them his spot. It’s their job to take it, and right now no-one is in the same league as Tex as a true KPF.
Betts I can’t see him replicating last year, and tbh I hope he doesn’t because it would (hopefully) mean fog and in particular filthy have upped their output.

We will miss him when he’s gone though. In terms of pure ball skill, players like Tex rarely come along. Just that freakish football ability. Jars, eddie, tex. They don’t come around often. Not to mention his voice and presence out there, he’s still the loudest on the track.

He looks super fit though and hasn’t to my knowledge had any injuries this pre season. I don’t think another 40, even 50 goals is out of the equation by any means.

Does Tyler Welsh look like he's growing?
LP I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s grown a bit, to my eye he looks similar in height to Keane and gollant so likely in that 192cm area. Wasn’t that long ago he was in the high 180cms.

He’s a strongly built lad but he’s actually a bit more rangy than i realised, I reckon he would have a pretty decent wingspan which would be handy and help make up for any lack of height.

I think it will unsettle the opposition but use him there all the time and people tag him hard. I’m happy that we have Pedler, Rash and Rankine to rotate through there and the others can rest forward

I think it was Keays the other day who said they have been getting KMs under their belt with the footy drills so there hasn't been a requirement to do straight running.

Has resulted in an improvement in skills as well.

Credit to the lads for a professional approach to their off season as well.

We have the players to do it so we need to get those numbers in the centre square and make us more flexible

Looking forward to it

Also , I’m keen to see Rankine start games in centre square … it’s a nice way to start a game with a tiny bit more freedom and he can lose his opponent pushing forward if we have a good plan

It’s a credit to the players the way they eat up the work

Looking forward to them being rewarded at some point , hopefully this year

That burst of speed is consistent with his year last year , he also has a healthy dose of power and agression which is a little bit different to his old man

It’s what makes me not even really care about what height he is

A mobile player with speed/ power at the similar height to Darling / Tex / Fog is an exciting prospect

He’s been roping and wrestling steer down the south east, I don’t suppose an Irishman is going to phase him greatly
I like the notion of a forthright Irish lad at full back in my team.
I hope he gets under the skin of his opponent every week. Between him, Worrell and Hinge, I can see our "flag flying" strongly down back this year.

Rankine is tagged constantly as a forward. He can handle that as well as anyone.

If Tex stays fit and plays 20+ games the i'm going to predict 60+ again. With his current level of confidence, and if he's still moving well there's really no stopping him getting a look at 3+ goals a game IMO.

At lot will come down to delivery into the forward line, which I feel like is really starting to hit its straps for the Crows.

In an ideal world Tex only kicks 50 and Fog kicks 40+ for first time and Thilthorpe 30+ for first time

Not an ideal world though
