In an ideal world Tex only kicks 50 and Fog kicks 40+ for first time and Thilthorpe 30+ for first time

Not an ideal world though
Re Tex, I might be selfish, but we might only get 1 more season of him (fingers crossed 2). So while he's here I want to continue to see Tex playing at his most dominant!

Therefore, in my ideal world, I see Fog and Thilthorpe raising their game, without Tex lowering his!

Either way as long as we are winning games
TBH I'm very VERY hopeful that Izak develops into a Shai Bolton like midfielder. Its been so long since we've had an X Factor, goal kickin mid with freakish skills. You could say Danger was that X factor player, and before him McLeod was the full package. But other then that the cupboard is very bare in our history.

So I'd be more then willing the sacrifice 20+ Rankine goals this season for long stints of midfield development time. In fact nothing would make me happier!

It’s a hard one: depending on what’s happening in the game may determine where he is best used: but one thing that can be guaranteed is there will be a highlight package

If Rankine kicks better at goal I see 40+ even with stints in mid

If we're getting 40+ goals out of Rankine in this scenario, it means his stints in the midfield aren't long enough to be a worthwhile addition to his game and we're likely shooting ourselves in the foot by opting for it.

Whilst those 20-30% CBA stints have their place, it does need to fall on players who aren't as important to our offensive game, but have the potential to really add a niche - like Pedlar or Rachele at this point. Due to the value Rankine possess, we either commit to midfield as his primary role or we don't bother and bank the 35+ goalscorer each year - which has immense value in its own right.

I get your point but "less goals from Izak" is not really the KPI we want to be looking at for a measure of his success

if he averaged 20 disposals and kicked 2 a game he'd be one of most valuable players in comp...wouldn't surprise me if he could do something near that

a hybrid role would be great I think

McLeod averaged betwen 27 and 30 goals in the years 2000-2003 and averaged over 500 posessions in those years. So if izaac can get to those levels as a mid then great. We need a goal kicking mid. They dont kick enough atm. Laird kicked 3 goals last year. Dawson kicked 6.
dawson will kick lots more this year

he missed alot he won't always miss

It is the major reason why you don't hybridise though. Rankine is too valuable and it's better to have your more valuable players in one position. Hybridisation is more for your mid-tier players - a good candidate at the moment would be Rachele.

That's not to say we shouldn't look at Rankine moving to the midfield. It's just that the only way we benefit from such a move is to make Rankine a front-line midifelder and give him 50-70% of the CBA's. A likely consequence of that is we'll be unable to turn one of Rachele or Pedlar into a midfielder though - seeing we'll need a way to make up for the goals we lose from Rankine and they are the best candidates.

He would be the most valuable player in the competition and it would be daylight second, as it's been 4-5 years since anyone got close to that mark.

So on that, I would be very surprised if he could even get close. After all, there is a point where if someone wants to up their disposal count, they need to move away from the forward line for longer periods of time and this game isn't trending in a direction where there is more offense.

When you have a forward line who puts up 220+ goals in their top 6, you don't need midfielders to score goals. Why goalscoring midfielders are valuable is it puts less pressure on the lower slots of a forward line to produce goals - which can be a very hard part of the lineup to get any genuine production out of.

If our midfield cranks it up another gear, then the scoring opportunities will remain thereabouts.
We can afford for Tex to give less output, providing at least 1-2 other forwards to boost their scoring capacity.

I would also like to see our forwards improve their goal kicking accuracy, particularly in close matches.

I reckon Rankine’s our current best chance to emulate those kind of stats. Unlikely this season, but possible in 2-3 years.

Tex more FF Fog and RT playing more higher would be my liking

So forward or mid field what are you saying

What I'm saying is the only wrong answer here is trying to give Rankine a bit-part midfield rotation whilst trying to keep him primarily as a forward. He's too important for that.

Well that and one of Rankine/Rachele/Pedlar has to stay as a permanent forward in the mid-to-long term, without us spending even more significant capital on small forwards.
