Joe Hockey is very commercially minded that is why he commenced litigation and ended up 1/2 a million behind. The further tax cuts he is proposing are fiscal suicide

That amazed me he wasnt even close, cant even take the moral high ground (I know he tried) he got absolutely smashed on the actual article

On tax cuts it pointless like i believe shorten said today for tax increases on those who earn 300k plus thats only top public servants and union delegates (kidding). Most people earning that sort of coin are paying a top rate equal to the company rate

It wasn't a bad idea, but I don't think it went far enough and as it is, it's too easily opposed as 'politics of envy', 'pandering to the left' and the like.

Reform income tax so everyone pays, at least, half the nominal rate on their full income. (AKA, no matter how many deductions you have, you can't claim so much that it reduces your overall tax bill by more than 50%, be that $2 down to $1 or $2Million down to $1Million). Couple that with some overall reform (reducing the rates somewhat, probably more so for lower incomes) and you've got a workable 'tax reform' policy.

This is a strange argument from last week that I don't particularly want to get involved in, but I would argue strongly that the Anbar Awakening and not the surge was the reason for a downtick in violence in that period. Just as the surge did in Afghanistan, in Iraq without the Awakening it would only have offered more targets.

As far as the energy situation goes, It cant be too before many of the real old & dirty coal fired power stations will be up for replacement. Who will pay for those?
