Absolutely shattering news. I'm gutted for Doch. The man just does not deserve this kind of injury history. I can't help but feel this one is going to be a long road back.

Unfortunately, Doc is done. Can’t see him going again at 32 with his injury and health history

Doesn’t mean he can’t have an enormous impact on the group in a coaching capacity for the rest of this year and beyond

Shattered for Doc :cryv1: :cryv1: :cryv1:

💔 I feel sick 💔

The Carlton Football Club can confirm that midfielder Sam Docherty has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and tear to the meniscus in his right knee.
Docherty sustained the injury in a tackle during the first quarter of Friday night’s win over Brisbane.

The 30-year-old underwent scans upon returning to Melbourne, which confirmed the extent of the injury.
“There is arguably no player in our competition who is more beloved than Sam Docherty,” Carlton General Manager of Football Brad Lloyd said.

Devastating news for Doc but somehow I feel he is a player we can cover.

Hope that doesn't seem harsh on the bloke.
Was having a similar convo yesterday. He's no longer a player that commands a position. Squeezed out of the backline, better options in the midfield and not really proven as a forward. Would still make a fine wingman.

That said, absolutely shattered for the bloke. Wish him all the best. Will take a lot of courage to attempt to go around again, but if there's one man that's synonymous with courage...

2 picks mid season draft, probably will need them

Unfort with the injuries in the game, pre-season inactive injury should be replaced in the SSP, while/if you can.

2 short (senior players too) until the MSD now, if the talent remains for the wanted player/s.

Shattering for Doc.
Who was the last player to have a successful LARS?

Not sure of the age (might be 40) but surgery is not thought to be the best way of recovery for an ACL.

Let’s win 17 for him.

Nothing surer than this galvanising this club & our teams’ resolve.

It comes as a stark reminder to our players - that they can’t take anything for granted.

Doc will be back, while he rehabs, will add incredible value to the coaching group.

Go well Doc.

Doc is one of those unlucky players, the heart and soul player who continually has a mountain to climb, but doesn't ever reach the pinnacle. Agree with some of the other posters, now is the time to bring him into the coaching group, whilst he is still very much in the 'today' mode...

In some good news I hope Carroll keeps his spot as Docs replacement to give him a good run at a few games with full time mid minutes
I think that’s the right way to look at it. As devastating as it is for Doc, who is one of my absolute favourites, his absence creates an opportunity for someone like Carroll. Based off what he showed in the last half of last nights game I am looking forward to seeing what he can do with that opportunity.

In the near future when he’s called stumps.. there needs to be an award names the Sam Docherty award at our best & fairest
