That’s a lot of names, who do you want if we are taking two?

I would rather we focus on players who have been delisted prematurely, say Hotton and Burgiel, its not common that players taken in the second round are cut so quickly, unless there is a few issues, I would rather take a chance on talented players with issues than someone who has been cut because they lack the intensity, desire and commitment for AFL.

Add Curtis Taylor to my list.

Ok let's go with my hypothetical where we play Moir and SOS in the forward line in a best 22, Kemp as a mid, and Motlop developing in the reserves as a midfielder, with Wilson on the wing, Jagga Smith and the Campo twins at the draft, and we're left with the following needs (to which I'll associate DFA options):

Key defender - Kreuger, Jeka, Tomlinson, Allison
Key forward - Allison, Keuk, Jeka
Quick mid - Narkle, Allison
Quick small defender - Witherden, Bonner, Murdoch
Quick small forward - Clarke, Cumberland, Wanganeen

At which point I would take 3 DFA: Kreuger (KPD), Allison (mid/fwd), Clarke (small fwd).

If Motlop isn't converted into more of a mid, then I'd go in a different direction with perhaps someone like Narkle instead of Clarke. Kreuger and Allison I would happily give 2 year deals.

Is that the list of players who have been cut because they lack the intensity, desire and commitment for AFL? :p

You're right that McDonald would’ve made a lot more sense than Phillips to draft, but is Logan McDonald actually that good? He’s obviously a better player than Will Phillips and he would fill a need a lot more than Phillips does, but I don’t think either are particularly that good.

I feel like McDonald will struggle to ever be the number 1 guy in an AFL forward line and will only ever be a pretty good number 3 tall forward. He might be able to develop into a pretty good number 2 guy, but I just really struggle to see it.

I guess he still is only 22, turning 23 next year, so maybe I’m being a bit harsh. We should know within the next year or two, if he is him or not.
With respect, you don't need a no.1 forward, you've already got that in Larkey. What you need is someone to draw attention away from Larkey, and McDonald would do precisely that.

The argument you're making here is reminiscent of arguments had when we have Fev running round: that we needed another dynamic, quality forward rather than just another offsider. I cannot tell you how wrong we were, because we were just so, so easy to shut down in 2009-2010 because all you needed to do is sit a bloke 20m in front of Fev and we couldn't score.

You need that second tall, and to an extent the quality of that second tall doesn't matter. You can afford them going at 1 goal a match, but in all likelihood you'd see a return of 30+ goals a season.

When I see a player like Narkle and there’s more on your list, these players have been around a good 6 or more years, have had multiple opportunities with a few at more than one club.

I see it as very unlikely that they will then all of a sudden change and become quality.

Players like Hotton and others who are cut after 2 years, I see as having a better scope of improvement

I never said I was giving Narkle 2 years, but I suspect he'd demand it for the move across the country. At that point, I'd move onto another target.

Hypothetically, he'd be good senior midfield depth for a season.

12 other clubs saw that and didn't pick him.... Idiots
I think that if the AFL re-did the 2013 draft 11 seasons on, with hindsight firmly on, P. Cripps would go #1 easily.

They wanted someone else.

Malthouse pushed for Cripps as we were devoid and screaming for leadership.
