Was having a similar convo yesterday. He's no longer a player that commands a position. Squeezed out of the backline, better options in the midfield and not really proven as a forward. Would still make a fine wingman.

That said, absolutely shattered for the bloke. Wish him all the best. Will take a lot of courage to attempt to go around again, but if there's one man that's synonymous with courage...

My thoughts summed perfectly.

Bit too much jam it on the boot without looking in the midfield for me. Prefer our other small options down back. Not sure what spot he fills in our best 22 but I would have never dropped him.

Devastated for him. Heart and soul player. Three ACL’s and cancer is cruel. But I think we’ll be fine.

I feel sick.

No one deserves this. 4 of the best years of his life taken away.

I'm thinking the club/he may call it. He'll be 31 before the end of the year.

Each one takes a bit out of you, He'll never be the same player again.

Absolutely ******* devastating. Utter bullshit.

Only positive I can take is this will surely be our season theme now. Do it for Doc.
If he was to retire I hope he makes it a strategic one. Always seems to be stories like this where they pull the pin a few weeks before finals to give the team a pump up and some momentum

I think that’s the right way to look at it. As devastating as it is for Doc, who is one of my absolute favourites, his absence creates an opportunity for someone like Carroll. Based off what he showed in the last half of last nights game I am looking forward to seeing what he can do with that opportunity.

Boyd probably plays every week now. Deserves a good crack too.

Much like everyone else I’m gutted and it does feel like Doc will call it here.
What can you say - the football gods are cruel.

It’s a crude analogy - but I look at like a bushfire. The beautiful existing trees are destroyed, but its triggers biodiversity into something bigger and stronger.

Binns, Carroll, Hollands are all names that we’ll get to see in lieu of #15, and they’re the future of the club.
Get yours boys and do Doc proud.

Gutted. Doch was there for the start of the rebuild and now I think he will finish personally.

A leader, a good communicator lost at least for 2024 when we are vying for a flag.

Gutted for the group of players.

Now frustrated as a supporter as yet another experienced contributor joins the out list. Another year after many years where we have been hit by significant injuries pre-season start and now early season. It's curse like if you think of it in pre-2000 and post 2000 terms.

Just such awful news and awful luck.

At least he got to be a part of our finals run last year. He was a warrior and leader when we were at our lowest point, but also one the player who set up Acres goal to give us our best win in two decades so he has his place in Carlton's hall of legends.

Obviously hoping he makes it back, evem to have a season like Ed Curnow did as a leader for the reserves and senior emeegency who can step up to cover injuries even in a big game

It occurs to me that when I consider my current favourite Blues players, Silvagni is 1 and Docherty is 2.

I'm not even going to contemplate who number 3 is.

First thing I thought too
My initial reaction was “that’s him done”. Then my next thoughts were “he’ll spend this week thinking about things” and “give him a dev coaching job under Power”.

I also thought we’ll win the flag this year for JSOS and Doc.

I’m over thinking if we lose a player here or there that our season is in trouble

Last night proved this side has incredible spirit and we are not a side of individuals

Obviously want our stars in, but we didn’t have Walsh or doc in our second half comeback last night in a side that is as good as it gets.

Have. Some. Faith.

This is spot on. It’s terrible news about Doc and as much as I’d love to have Weitering and Walsh available, last night’s comeback showed it’s not the end of the world if they miss a few games. Voss has always preached “next man up” and after the 9 game winning streak last year (with a host of key players out week after week after week) I think the players now actually believe it.

I know for us fans it’s hard not to get shitty about gun players missing games with injuries, particularly given our lean run of success but I think even before last night this current group have learnt the right for us to show them some respect. Last night just reinforced it. The players have found the secret sauce…BELIEF…time to get on board ladies and gents!!!
