You know the funny thing about all this though?
Doc won't be laying around moping and sooking.
He'll already have his head around what he's gotta do to recover, whether he plays on or not and he will drive the guys from the sidelines like the champion he is.
I've never met the guy in person but I think he would be appreciative of the support but slightly embarrassed at the same time, and extremely determined to still make a massive contribution.

PS - Kudos to Lloyd as well for his media presentation. Class.

What did Lloyd say?

That's a long bow, considering there are another 20 odd players in the mix , many of which have just hit or about to hit their prime

Tell me who will come in and replace Docherty’s consistency (every game), leadership and versatility (wing, midfield, forward / back).
Sorry but you don’t just replace players as such overnight.
We will hopefully find someone like Binns(?) to add onto the wing or midfield Carroll (?) but they won’t give us what Doc gives us from day one and certainty not this or maybe even next year!!!

Others need to step up re leadership it can’t be on one or two, yes he offers great leadership but he can still assist on the sidelines, he’s an inspiration and I’m sure he will still have a positive affect on the group.

Best way I could answer this, is recent evidence

We just beat the Lions at home with a number of outs. Gone are the days where we are reliant on a couple of players

Doc's injury sickens me for a number of reasons, but no reason to think our output or progression is limited

Wouldn't surprise me if he his consoling his teamates about the situation even though it affects him the most.

You are kidding yourselves.
I love the bloke but he’s not in our top 3 HBs (assuming what we saw from Williams continues) and not in the top 5 mids. Then there are likes of Boyd coming up fast behind. It hurts our depth but he’s hardly an essential cog in the machine at this point.

I would say that he is in there not on skill level alone but leadership and courage and he is fearless.

As others have probably observed, Doc played the half and looked comfortable…. Can a torn meniscus lead to ACL weakening? If so, doc should have never gone back on after he first got sore in the first…

It’s really odd how he was still good when he came back on.

Absolutely staggered that it ended up being an ACL. When you consider what some ACL’s look like (Juddy’s for instance), Sam was able to get up and run. Just assumed it’d be something in the 4-6 weeks.

Of course gutted for Sam. Just been destined to have to travel a path full of adversity. Deserves so much better.

I won’t speculate on whether we’ll see him again or not, I don’t think the time for that is now. I will say, I do think we’re well equipped to handle his absence - which just shows how far we’ve come as a football club.
Watching the replay now. He was moving laterally, jumping, kicking moving freely with that knee injury until he got subbed out. What a tough nut. Much much respect

I’m going to ask what is probably the most ignorant question in the world. Last year, I discovered my ACL was ruptured, probably in a soccer game in 2005. The knee has never caused me any real trouble and has always been stable. My understanding is that increasingly, the decision taken with amateur sportsmen and lay people is not to operate when the ACL has been ruptured.

Off the top of the bat, I recognise Doc is not an amateur sportsman. I realise he is playing in a highly competitive league. I know he has had ACL operations before. But the knee was stable enough for him to play on after he injured it the other night. He appeared to be walking pretty well at the final siren.

So here is the question: does he really need to operate?
has anyone played on beyond the game they were injured in? perhaps a good chance of crippling yourself forever.....not t & j however..

I was out for 2 weeks 🤣

But in all seriousness, I do believe I read of a professional sports person who didn’t operate last year. It may have been a female soccer player. There was some sort of chat at the time that it may become a more common approach to ACL injuries.
