I have healthy scepticism regarding the club's approach to informing external stakeholders about injuries and injury management - primarily because I'm aware that previously the PR folk were too heavily involved in dissemination based upon supporter engagement and response rather than simply relaying the medical advice.
I think that apporach/attitude has fuelled the "I don't buy it brigade" because when the spin was wrong (and it constantly has been in recent years) it creates an atmosphere of incompetence which supporters attempt to pinpoint on Russell, or Teague, or McKay, or others.
The reality is there is not one person or one issue as to why we've had injury and rehabilitation problems - it's more complex than that and I'd argue impossible for anyone outside the club to definitively say what the root cause has been/is.
They need to employ Iron Mike Tyson as there medical spokesperson. Here he is explaining Sam Walsh's injury....

Looking like Cerra, Kennedy, and Hewett are all in contact training + ball drills. Great signs with only Walsh and Cotters out from the midfield group.
Good news …vision of Cots in full flight at this week’s training on the Carlton website…

From memory he kicked 7 in the last full game he played before going down with the knee injury. Against the Dogs I reckon.

Maybe he too came back a lesser version, scary thought...
He did come back with less spring in his step, however I reckon he's not only regained it at this point but has absolutely surpassed it now. His first game back mind you, he launched one from 55-60m out off of one step for his first goal back. Charlie can't be the barometer for whether or not players return from injury as good as they once were because he is a freak built in a lab on the Surf Coast.

Could have been prior to the injury, think that was taken from the 1st week of training

Will get a good look next weekI am pretty sure the club released vision of the first week back at pre season training, which I think this is from.

I think you may be right. The club did release vision of the first week back at pre season training.

The greatest trick Cuningham ever played was convincing the world that he existed.
BT helped by calling half the team Cuningham, everyone assumed one of them must have actually been Cuningham.

Maybe the reality was that none of them were

Who is "we"?
I believe there are a panel of experts residing in Mr Falvo's head.
We have had many opinions and predictions from said esteemed inner space panel.
Unfortunately, what they say usually doesn't translate to reality in the outer world.
But, does make for some fun reading.
Much like our good friend the poster King Charles.

To thy's question bbb - if we have trouble definng the causes then an obvious solution not being implemented is not as straight forward as is being implied.
none of this is that clear cut
Russells copping it for walsh not exactly because of walshs injury but a cumulative effect so its pretty emotional responses rather than logical - but that doesnt mean russells in the clear
The communication is horrendous - and makes the fans have to guess based on the evidence in front of them which is either limited or misleading - rarely honest and detailed.
You tell us walsh has a sore back, +3 months is coming back to training then next week spine surgery (3 month miss) you're shit at your job and deserve the pressure from fans.
Cunningham communications missing in action - easy to assume cunninghams rehab is still not hitting the mark and thats either russels or cunninghams fault...except we just threw him another contract, now thats either a dirt cheap contract or maybe we just suck at injury management
Pittos first knee clash - no issue - bringing him back early and then getting more late surgery - not ideal
curnow - do people buy the slipping on the tiles story?
ed - old and shocking luck, covid x2 in 6 months, plus numerous injuries
dont forget the s+c staff that were cut due to covid - russell has a bigger job now because of the cuts...but by a few reports he loved telling other people how to do their jobs - you'd want to be pretty blood sure of yourself if that's the case - and the evidence isnt looking so great.
then you have the recurring injuries to the standard high salary trade guys - allowing them to be traded with their injury issues and not improving any of them is a big fail for me unless people want to only think of burgoyne or how curnow had a good 2022 and ignore the 2.5 years missed

I don't get it.

Most injuries aren't clear cut in terms of exact recovery time and or return date, as they can either heal quicker or may take longer. Some injuries may cause secondary concerns, issues or further injuries

Through that period, clubs won't want to alert the opposition as players can be targeted. Example of this was when Ling Jong returned from a shoulder injury, they strapped his good shoulder and players were targeting that shoulder, clever

Then there are privacy issues, players exact treatment, medication, etc, won't be released. So don't expect a players daily medical diary to be released

Russell isn't a sports physician, so decisions on treatment will be dictated by the club doctor

All clubs would follow similar procedures and protocols

Obviously this is to be taken with all of the grains of salt that ever existed in the history of the universe, but....

While discectomy surgeries in the past came with lengthy recovery periods, Larkins believes new techniques will help the Carlton midfielder come back quicker if his body responds well to the procedure.
“It could be as quick as a month for an elite athlete to come back.”

While Walsh won’t complete any football-related activities until he’s given the all-clear from his surgeon, Larkins expects the 22-year-old to get back to cardio-based work such as swimming and walking well before the season starts.
