If we can only afford 1 on the night than we just recruit the other in 2 years time.
We can use next year's picks without burning our first round choice, the AFL updated the new system. :thumbsu:

Hadn't heard this!?!?

What can we do... take it from a 3rd rounder or something?

Downgrade the pick at which you took them is the way I read it, so if someone bids their second rounder after ours, we use our third and our third next year goes back in the draft however many points we need to square the ledger.

Would make sense if you can choose any pick to downgrade as long as you pay it back however.

Can we get a thread where everyone can post once their proposed trades? i.e. can edit and update own post up to a set date.
Then we can see how close, or how far away everyone is. At the moment there are proposed trades in a lot of threads.
We could then have one of the existing threads as a discussion thread.

And the person who gets the closest wins a mars bar. Which they can buy themselves.

Kinda like the one titled "2015 LIST Discussion - trades, delistings, free agency etc"?

- The playing group is filthy with Hendo. He has lost a lot of mates with what he did.
- Bolts and Barker were the 2 clear standouts from those interviewed. Dew only pulled out once we told him we weren't selecting him. Our selection panel think that Barker will be picked up from another club as they feel he is good enough to be a head coach).
- Barks will take some time off at years end and decide on if he stays or goes. Has a good relationship with Bolton, but time will tell. Playing group in his ear to stay.
- Playing group are yet to meet Bolton.

I would hope that the club considers Barker's future and helps him achieve it. He deserves to be a senior coach somewhere... and I would have give him my support as senior coach of Carlton if selected. But being demoted back to being a line coach at Carlton, after tasting what it's like on the pointy end, and isnt going to sit well with him. I think that it might be in the clubs best interest to move him into the senior coaching position at Preston where he can spend a couple of years refining his game plans and getting experience as a senior coach. He would still be answerable to Bolton in terms of the type of development we want to see him putting into the kids from Carlton we play with the bullants and if a senior role came up in the future, he would be even more suited to the position than some other assistant from another club would be.

It hasnt hurt Bolton having 2 years as senior coach at Box Hill on his resume. And it wouldnt hurt Barker, especially if he can turn the fortunes of Preston around and take it back to the top of the VFL ladder.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-12/afl-closes-draft-bidding-system-loophole

However the introduction of the ability to trade future draft picks has seen the AFL look more closely at its points-based bidding system for father-son and academy players and iron out some anomalies.

It has led to the AFL setting a points deficit limit for clubs bidding on father-son and academy players.

The limit will be set at 1723 points, which is the equivalent of the group of picks that will be assigned to the premiership team each year: selections No.18, 36, 54 and 72.

If a team trades future draft picks in or out, their deficit limit will be altered according to how many selections they hold.

For instance, if a team acquires an extra first-round pick for the following year they have a deficit limit of 2708 points (the standard 1723 plus 985 points, the value for pick No.18).

Conversely if a club trades out its future second-round pick, it will have a deficit limit of 1221 points (1723 minus 502 points, the value for pick No.36).

The move guarantees academy clubs will pay back their deficit in one year and cannot access future picks two years down the line compared to every other club's access to just one draft into the future.

It also ensures clubs will not be allowed to take their points debt into the following year's draft on a consistent basis, which could have seen them be in a never-ending cycle of owing points for highly-rated players.

AFL.com.au reported last week about the other major change to the bidding system, which saw the AFL decide that clubs matching late bids for academy or father-son picks would not risk pushing back their first selection the next year if they owed points.

Instead, they will be able to pay back the remaining points in the same round that the bid came.

If we can only afford one, Jack and Bailey are shot off in pods into a barricaded shithole neighbourhood with crazed gladiator type assholes trying to kill them and live betting back in the draft conference centre. Best catchphrase gets recruited.
Only in a re-run...

Menzel a star ? That's pushing it.
The club (if you believe the print journos) are hellbent on getting 4 top 20 draft picks, and Menzel is one of our few assets that can get us one of those picks.

Menzel's on field body language and efforts have concerned me for quite some time now.
Playing injured and sore with minimal fitness base, would be frustrating and would account for
the alleged bad body language.

Ah yes... here we go... good example

Under the new system, however, they will retain, for example, pick 17 even if they selected Hiscox the previous year and went into debt by 194 points.

Rather than spend the points in the first round and risk slipping back to pick 23 they will be able to spend the 194 points in the second round – where the bid for Hiscox was made – and slip back from 34 to 45.

SOS should recruit a PhD in mathematics or perhaps quantum physics so that we can make sense of the draft system.

You could start a thread under the guise of a competition where people can guess what the club will actually do. If you don't format it differently to just trade and pick discussions, it will probably be closed. Buts its a good idea and a bit of fun for some I'm sure.

Been out of the loop lately, where did all this Andy McKay being replaced rumour come from ? Would be appalled if we treated a great club champion and servant so shabbily.

Some of his list management trades (Everitt and Docherty) have been inspired, hope petty club politics aren't going to cost another great clubman his job.

Very happy to wait and see how The Vet and SOS perform in this year's draft and trading period, we owe him that much at least.

Who knows how much influence he has over some of these deals, but since you're citing them I will cite a couple of others

Daisy Thomas 4 years + 1 $625k per annum
lost Eddie Betts for no compensation (see above)
Liam Jones 3 years
Tutt, Dick 2 years or is it 3?
Jeff Garlett traded for a pack of Cheezels
Waite lost for nothing (ok, that's AFL's fault)

just posting for a bit of balance

You work for Carlton don't you?

Actually on 2nd thoughts it's a good idea ajb72

Start the thread and it will be like the Bluemour File where there will be no comments at all.

Only participants can update/edit their proposed trades otherwise it will end up like any other thread.
Pretty sure we have done similar in the past and it has worked well.

All in good fun ................ closest to the pin!

And the jury is still out on Pick 7 for Jacksh, Whiley and BB...
Any way you look at it, that a pretty shocking, and costly strike rate isn't it... Reamings a plenty amongst that lot.

Don't know why Tutt has been labelled a failure. He has been pretty good generally and was great on the weekend against the Dees !

I break out in a sweat whenever he gets the ball, for a start.

He's OK when he's got a paddock to himself, but if there's another player, even a teammate, within 10ft of him he deadset shits himself and runs in circles before handballing to the nearest player (who is about to get tackled) or kicking to a 3-on-1 (against us) down the line.

Very one-dimensional, which can be a strength in a strong side, but means he's going to get exposed very badly with us.
