Well, we all think he’s a legend as well.

He certainly was.
Old fella was a senior level criminologist here in Victoria back in the 70/80’s.
He set up a specialist unit that he headed up in Carlton, just off Lygon st next to the park.
He dealt with the worst of the worst that Melbourne offered, including but not limited to the og Carlton crew.
He worked hard to keep us all safe.

I have been accused of calling people terrible thing like clarko a scumbag etc but for some reason it doesnt sit rigjt call
Stringer a flog...i've read somewhere recently that he is actually a nice person. Of anyome personally knows him and can elaborate then great but i don't mind him and am trying to be more open minded

Not sure where you think I’m sticking up for Durdin and Motlop over Owies.

If you read my point again it’s only about how people are saying no to Stringer as he has no other strings to his bow. But he kicks more goals than Owies and does more so I find it a pointless argument saying let’s not even contemplate going after Stringer with what we have currently on our list

Spot on. It’s quite funny how some on here are so dismissive of him and ‘DO NOT WANT’ simply because I assume they have him as a ‘flog’.

I don’t know much about Jake other than he would make our forward line better and our club should always be trying to improve our playing list.

Blind Freddy would have picked weiters/H and also Charlie (particulalry with connection to his brother)

wouldn't be claiming too much success with the rest ...cunners and jsos...

Cunners has always been talented but never really had the drive and was injury prone (not recruiters fault)

Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow were so obvious:

Brisbane drafted Josh Schache

Essendon drafted Aaron Francis

Melbourne drafted Sam Weideman


All before Carlton drafted either. Even Adelaide who went for Milera were reported to be keen on Charlie in that sandwich pick between McKay and Charlie.

FWIW that year we had a mid-season phantom draft on here. I drafted Harry in I believe the 40s and got a "who?" from quite a few posters. He then shot up the draft boards. It wasn't like he spent all year in the first round.

overall he got a lot wrong too so not sure why he’s made out a genius by some.

8-10 years in and our list is still unbalanced. Not all his fault but he did bring in a lot of suspect cheap players. Which I believe contributed to our current issues (key back, mid with some pace and small forwards).

Compared to hawks current rebuild/refresh we haven’t done all that well.

But I am not sure the other 3 should really be lecturing the others.
Walsh - calling for the ball in ridiculous situations or blindly bombing ball inside 50.
Weitering - constantly trailing off opponents sets terrible example for other defenders
Curnow - lack of second efforts and poor attempts to tackle

They are wonderful players but don’t do the things needed for ultimate team success. And I suspect the other players see this.

Their job as leaders is to maintain standards. Even they will have moments they don’t reach them, and that’s on the other leaders to hold them to account. No player is perfect either, so to say that unless they are flawless, they can’t critique others, is pretty pointless

Worth considering that an exit meeting is generally a discussion, so it goes both ways.

I expect with this group, it would have been an opportunity to discuss goals, offer support over the off-season, set expectations, but also to get feedback on what each player needs from the leadership group, and for the leadership group to make commitments based on that.

...at least, I'd hope so.

If it turns out they're singling out a handful of players and playing the blame game, then that would be horrendously poor. But I don't think that's what Crippa is about, and I don't think he'd have the other leaders taking that approach either.

What I'm most curious about from the statement is that they're doing it with "some" players. Feels like the kind of thing you either do with everyone, or not at all. But perhaps they're leaving the younger guys to the coaches and focusing their efforts more on the other established senior players who would naturally be expected to help set/reinforce standards.
