Focusing on the footy side of things, JDG strikes me as the kind of player who plays really well in contract years but then coasts when contracted.

There's been quite a few reports in the past of him not being ultra professional and coming back from pre-season out of shape etc...and he's had some huge games this year, but I reckon his 2019 (contracted) was only OK and the last time he had a really good year was when he was last OOC.

I worry that if we give him a long 4-5 year deal to pry him out of Collingwood that he'll coast given his security and not be the star we hope for.
On top of this. Seems to be a bit of a cream player. Brilliant when the pies engine room are winning the ball well but has little to no impact in other games. All well and good but I'd imagine he'd be way too expensive for that sort of player. Would prefer an Oliver or merrett type for a similar price. Those midfielders contribute more, more often.

I just can’t understand his motivation for leaving Collingwood. They’re a successful team, they’ve looked after him, they will pay him what he’s worth.

just doesn’t make sense that there’d be genuine interest. This is Travis Cloke all over again.

Yeah someone like Oliver/Merrett transforms our team and can be trusted more to perform and improve our chances of winning week in week out.
JDG is more inconsistent and if the team is a bit down, he's unlikely to be the guy to roll his sleeves up and turn things around for us.

Just not worth the contract size & draft picks we'd had to give up for him I reckon...there's other players that present better value.

The guy even playing?

Didn't even know Stephenson was playing until I read on Collingwood's board that he is lol.

Not sure he's even touched it. Sure tough conditions for a forward but all he's good for is getting on the end of easy ball and kicking goals...when it gets tough he's useless. Not a tough, defensive bone in his body. Collingwood posters are sick of him.

He can’t play on Plowman every week you know.

:p

Last time de Goey came out of contract and was being linked to other clubs, one of our posters around here claimed to be mates with JDG and said he would never leave the Pies. I can’t remember who it was, but perhaps said poster might poke his head above the trenches again!

I like the way Sam Simpson goes about it. I wouldn't mind trading for him, perhaps with Parfitt in a package.

I was actually talking about DeGoey lol.

Horror showing from the Pies.

Well I hope tonight convinces the club and people on here that JDG isn't worth the mega contract and 2 x 1st round draft picks it would take to pry JDG out of Collingwood. I'm not judging him on this one game, but what I've seen from him as a player over his career I just don't think he's the right one for us to spend big on.
