Would work perfectly for the Saad trade.

7 and future first for Oliver and an early second (23).

One of:
- 23 and 27 for Saad and change (future third ~37-40).
- 23 and 27 to the Bulldogs for 12 and change (anything from the late 3rd round on still equals a point gain for the Dogs), send 12 to Essendon for Saad and change (still future third ~37-40).

I'd also consider splitting 7 for 13 and 16. Using 16 on Saad, and sending 13 and our future first to Melbourne for Oliver with nothing else coming back.

I think that deal is very close to the mark, especially considering what other mid have been traded for in the past.

Just shuffle some later picks

Bulldogs poster who has apparently had some accurate mail in the past has been making some pretty definitive calls on Oliver going to Carlton. Mentioned on both the D&T board and the Bulldogs board. Nothing ground breaking, but a rumour nonetheless.

Oliver and Cripps together would be so amazing. Really hope it happens.

Knowing Garry Lyon is not stupid, interesting that this would appear as Oliver talk seemingly warms up a little.

What twilight zone of incomprehensible stupidity have we stumbled into??? Essendon Saad is statistically identical to GC Saad, three years older, and uncontracted...and his trade value has trebled? And because we only have 7 that's what we must use...it's like ordering $20 pizza and only having a $50 note...an out of the box thinker may try to break that note up to more relevant currency, or perhaps request some change, or maybe even a store credit to use in the future...if only similar options were available in trade week...

Thought exactly the same thing, changed his tune since Oliver may want to come to the blues..

Look's the Oliver rumour may have something to it..

Not without a medical and discussions with him and his management...

If a team had one selection I’d agree, not 3, bring him in and tell him if he wants out at the end of year 1 you will trade him, he might enjoy winning, stability, the club and want to stay.

I like the idea but feel waiting to pick 30 is too big of a risk, top 20 I feel it’s a great move.

Tom Phillips has averaged 27 disposals and booted eight goals in the opening 10 rounds of 2018 to put his name into the All-Australian conversation.
"It's about being more comfortable with the roles I'm playing. I'm flourishing under the guys I'm playing alongside and I put it down to the faith and trust from the coaches," Phillips said.
"The type of player I am with my running and work rate, adding more speed and carrying the footy, breaking the lines and actually being really damaging offensively were my aims.
"I want to keep my defensive mindset but set myself apart from the rest as a midfielder with that offensive flair, trying to set up the play, set up the guys to kick goals and try to get on the end of some myself."

he would be great, wouldn’t cost too much either

I'd certainly want to know why he's so disgruntled, first.
If it's for finishing fifth in the B&F....come one now....what do we do? Offer him our 2021 B&F now?

There's either something much more behind this, or he's using us to get a contract extension with plenty of extra $$$'s from Melbourne, now.
* It still is odd that Viney got 5 years so soon in the piece. Really threw me off.

The 5 year deal for Viney struck me as really odd as well. Hard to tell whether it is related to Clarry's situation or not

If Oliver really wanted out, I would say The Dees would want a player as well as a pick(or picks)

I feel like that trade undervalues Oliver with that 2nd round coming back to us.
Don't think he's worth 2x 1st rounders, but definitely more than 1x 1st rounder.
Maybe if it was a third or 4th coming back to us?

If and big if Oliver comes across, where does that leave Setterfield? Can we run a midfielder or Oliver, Cripps & Setterfield?
It's fine.

We're not talking about a combination of Cripps, Kennedy and a third similar type (Brodie, Constable, etc).

Oliver isn't lightning, but he's certainly not slow and can get around the park. Setterfield bit of a smooth mover, a different type.

If we somehow land Oliver, the three of them could definitely play together, especially when you factor in Walsh, Williams, Ed gets a pure tag role, then the likes of Martin, Fisher, SPS, Williamson, Murph, Doc, etc who can get some rotations through the wings or on-ball, plus some added speed coming through off halfback with Saad's inclusion.

You only have to look at the Treleor, Shiel, Neale trades

It's well in the ballpark

Yep.

Setterfield is more defensive than the other two, and can become a first receiver rather than an inside winner. Essentially, you put him and SPS around the stoppage, to try and get the ball into Walsh, LOB, Newnes, Gibbons, Murphy's, Williams, Saad's hands outside. Cripps actually gets to practice his goalkicking without our stoppages going to shit.

We're slow, but that's only a problem if we don't have the ball, and we'll have the ball an awful lot.

Now that we’re in a new trade phase, the Sgt Crippa’s Traded Mids Club Band Era, the songs keep coming:

Here’s the lyrics for two more from the upcoming COVIDsafe album:

An ode to Eddie B:

"Get With-‘em"
(a Buddy Holly/Ry Cooder cover)

Get winning when you join the Blues
Hey, get winning when you join the Blues
Get a rock 'n' roll feelin' in your bones
Get taps on your toes and just get gone
Get with-‘em, when you’re at the Blues

Forward Eddie Betts never gets low down
and he's got the best job in blues-town
Bendin' low at the H's feet
On the darkened corner of the Lygon street
Well, I asked him why he rejoined the Blues

How'd he keep Crows from hearin’ the news?
He grinned as he shook his little head
Shot a dribble goal and then he said
Get with-’em when you’re at the Blues

Hey, get winning when you’re at the Blues
It’s feel good time, just joy to improve
Does a million dollars worth of good for you
Get winning when you’re at the Blues

and this predictive potential smash hit. . .

Blue Blue Wines (ZWilliams reggae mix)

A Neil Diamond/ UB40 cover

Blue, blue Wines goes to midfield
Makes Cripps forget that he heard of Freo
Blue Blue Wines, it's up to you
All we can do we’ve done
Memories of Ken will stop . . . Hinkley will go

I'd have sworn that with time
Thoughts of us would leave your head
I was wrong, now I find
Just one thing makes you forget
Blue, blue Wines, stay close to fam’
Don't let Cripps be alone
It's tearing apart my blue heart

Blue, blue Wines, you’ll get more midfield time
You’ll keep us winning all the time
Blue, blue Wines you’ll make it to a grand
and feel a million dollars with a Norm Smith in your hand
Blue, blue Wines, you’d make us feel so sad
If in time you didn’t go, it’d make us feel bad
Remember memories of Ken will stop
Teague train’s the go . . .

😀🤯

Brilliant!

I will be in the front row of your first live show once COVID is over!

Minor point: Get With-‘em (Get Rhythm) is Johnny Cash, no?

ITK C09 has recently stated in Bluemours that Oliver has been approached and we are awaiting his decision. If he accepts, it is going to throw a spanner in the works for the Saad trade, by finding Picks and/or players to satisfy both * and Melbourne. What do others think? What players, if any, would we be prepared to give up to satisfy Melbourne?

There would have to be plans for all scenarios including if gws match Williams. they wouldn’t be speaking to the players otherwise, surely.
