I think his defence of it to some players wasn't necessarily the best way about it & that dodgy press conference defending the camp - he lost the players after that
Pyke definitely the GO now in my opinion
Great record and definitely would have learnt from past indiscretions
Crows were a decent well drilled side when he was at the helm

if not get Ross…

I think the media has been pretty bad on this review/coaching issue for us, but one point I do agree is they notion that they didn't work out that they were split on Ross Lyon until the last minute is amateurish. We should've known weeks ago whether or not he was an option we'd consider, to still be debating it now is terrible.

My guess is that the only reason Teague has shown any balls this week is because he thought he was gone. Much easier to throw that stuff around when you don't think you'll be there any longer. A bit like when a Prime Minister is rolled in a general election and we hear "that was the best speech they've ever done".
Maybe having all that done has liberated him and now he can become the coach he wanted without fear of repercussions. It woukd be hard to criticise a figure like Cripps no matter who you are even if uta deserved.

ITKs sometimes get it right and sometimes get it wrong.

Totally agree, the only thing is, the legends of this board pretty much unanimously came out and basically all alluded to the same thing. The have an awesome track record which is why they are so respected. Just weird that as it currently seems they are miles off.

Besides performance, what are people's gripes with Teague.

Honestly surprised with the vitriol he is getting.

He hasn't tanked us, but we haven't lived up to expectations.

To me this feels very Ratten esque

If 18 months into a job you were asked to work on something that was seen as an obvious deficiency and the next 12 months was spent seeing meeting after meeting the same deficiency pointed out and by the end of of another season that deficiency was still evident - do you think you should still be in the job?

What if that job you were the manager of a number of young and exciting prospects - you decided to put them on secondment in another department to flourish but at the end of the day it went to crap and they resigned from the organisation.

What if after all this you then point the finger at the 2IC below you and questioned his performance as a leader moving forward.

You think after seeing all that you would be surprised by vitriol?

Our defensive game plan was shown on every footy analysis show for 6 months. It didn't improve and we rank as one of the worst in the competition in all of the defensive categories bar intercept marks.
We stuck SPS in the back pocket because "We thought he could be the next Andrew McLeod" and then got dropped into a reserves program that didnt even exist because of COVID all for us to have him leave for a packet of chips after investing a first round pick on him.

I could ramble on.

But how could you be surprised?

It must be nice for a politician to be able to wax lyrical about the journey, get a tear in the eye talking about family sacrifice etc, but when do we hear that?

I'm glad the Club have not had a knee jerk reaction.
Looks to me they are genuinely trying to figure out what the best way forward is and keeping all options open.

Need to make sure that the right people want to come/commit to the club before firing half the Footy department and coaches.

Any resemblance here to the end of 1994?

Pretty sure I've heard Parko say that he was actually going to be fired because the club offered his position to both Gary Lyon and Brereton. They both refused so Parko was third choice.

If that's how that actually went down it's interesting that one of the leading players this year is also named Lyon.

Yeah but its all speculation. I don't think the club has ever come out and mentioned any coaches they were targeting.

Well, even with Clarko out of the picture, I'd be shocked if Teague is retained as head coach for 2022. In fact, mods, I'll put a one year ban from the Carlton forum on the line to say he won't coach next year.

I just can't see it happening either. Like there's only 1 circumstance that happens, EVERY single other person in the football department was fluffing their jobs and ruining it for Teague - but if that was the case why did Teague let that carry on for 2 years?

Ratten took us from 2nd last in 2007 to finals in 2009, 2010 and 2011, then missed out in 2012 narrowly.

He really didn't have the players check out on him like Teague has.

You’d think it’s safe to say that we won’t hear anything offical from the club today. So we all come back tomorrow and go again

I just got sent an image of the club’s PR department working furiously on a media release.

More to come….

Late Aug is one of the two busiest times of the year for me at work.

It's also right before I have my annual performance review and not a good time to be goofing off.

Every year, I pledge not to get caught up in the silly season hype. Yet, here I am. Again.

Ah, it's fine. I'll stay away next year.... :p

could this not be a PR stunt of sorts? Plenty of ITK’s with very good reputations suggested we’d get him.

It would be poor optics had the club sacked Teague and hired Clarkson on the same day. Perhaps there is more than meets the eye. I don’t know.

Parko also said during the '95 season

"We are the side in the competition"

Different times, different men

What concerns me about this is the fact that he is still employed. I can’t shake the feeling that he is being kept in the job as a fallback option - and if this is the case the criticism from many media types and legends of the game is completely founded.
To me the basic question should be: is Teague equipped to be our coach going forward, based on the review and the eye test from the last 2 seasons?
If no, cut the cord and fire him. Then seek the best candidate with clear air.
If yes, back him in, get some better support around him in a Head of Footy and some experienced assistants. But to keep him in no man’s land benefits no-one. Every day it drags on makes us look less and less competent.
It’s all well and good to start the process by saying that we won’t be hurried by media timelines, but to my untrained eye this looks a messy way to go about it.

Let’s go left field……play next year without a coach!
From a club PR point of view, we have no choice but to stick with Teague for at least one more year in my opinion.

Apparently Ross Lyon is not an option anymore due to that sexual harassment case at Freo (according to a couple of journos)

It's not an ideal situation, but we can salvage something from this shipwreck by surrounding Teague with decent, qualified assistants/support staff.

Replacing Teague now would not be worth the widespread media and public backlash, it would only serve as a sign of a dysfunctional footy club imo.
Have to disagree. You can’t have your coach and his manager come out and question the integrity of the captain. Unless you think Cripps should go?

I think keeping him is the least desirable option
