I agree, I wrote this in a now closed Bluemour thread last week.
He’s also been severely hindered by how wide and forward of the ball the coach has the other midfielders spreading. Where he used to win a hard ball and have teammates by his side to hand it to, now he has to win it against multiple opponents then look up and find a teammate that has run a mile in front of him.
This has proven for over a year now to be very hard to get back to defence when it goes wrong and also easy for teams to pulverise us in clearances just by getting numbers close to the ball such as the North Melbourne game (22-9 for centre clearances in North’s favour). Comments by the coach like “we got beaten in the contest” after the Hawks game last year make it sound like the players lowered their colours and doesn’t acknowledge how easy his game plan is to shut down.
This was pointed out by a scribe during the year, and may have been Ross himself. Playing wide does not play to our strengths, particularly Crippa's. We had to narrow the field is what he said.
Has Teague tried to implement a game plan our side isn't built for, just as Malthouse did when he first came, and did he do it on the back of recruiting the likes of Saad and Williams?
