Sliding Doors is the worst AFL segment article thing.

I have no idea how it still gets published.

Because people read it, then jump on forums like this and constantly mention it, and then more people read it.

Same goes for all opinion based footy shows across all forms of media.

The more people get 'angsty' and call journalists 'morons', The more it makes people read/watch/listen to them.

$$$$$ Ka-ching $$$$$

So who are the real 'morons' in this scenario.. 🐑🐑🐑

Say clarkson doesn't happen
Why not The Club do something different and appoint joint coaches 2 of Pyke,Caracella, Kingsley, Gia or would something like this not work

The critics will play both sides of any decision/timeline

Appoint a coach within a week of Teague leaving, the headlines would be, no process, review was a scam, etc

Take our time, headline, Carlton don't have a plan

And how concerned would you or any Carlton supporter be with your first headline if it was Clarko that was appointed?

Pretty sure ir wouldn't worry me.

I was at their Centenary match in 1992. Diesel carved them up, Sticks kicked 7.

We beat them in their 125th as well in 2017, I believe that we have never lost to them in one of their anniversary matches which they always play against us.

I like the lateral thinking but then we'd have twice as many to sack. Would send us broke.

In the words of the great Ricky Gervais "are you aving a laugh"?

What better timing could we have than to have announced Clarkson as our coach within a day or two of sacking Teague?

Would have avoided the shambles surrounding Lyon, naming of a coach selection panel involving a CEO we were to sack about a week later, effectively knock any Board challenge fair on the head, allowed the new coach to be involved in de-listing and trade discussions and made us a more attractive prospect for player trades, given the new coach early input into assistant hiring and stopped us from being a target of derision for media commentators throughout the football world.

How is what has happened so far justified our control or timing strategies?

Yes, we would still have been criticised by some clowns but we sure as hell wouldn't have been laughed at, just empty criticism.

None of us know what's really going on but, fair to say, we haven't covered ourselves in glory over the last 3 weeks. It does, to me anyway, seem much more like grovelling than controlling the narrative.

I guess it's possible that we've already hired Clarkson and he has been involved in some of those discussions but, AFAIC, there's no justification for that method of operation.

I'll support any coach we appoint but I'll never be happy with the way we've handled this sorry saga.

“Just because you’re offended doesn’t mean you are right.“ - Ricky Gervais

I don’t work for the club and don’t really need to justify what happened but I continue to love Carlton so maybe consider this:

Timing in business is not always linear.

Confirmation of roles is sometimes prosaic.

An organisation can’t control each individual at all times and definitely not people outside of it trying to get in.

The timing may be the candidate’s not the club’s.

Ducks in a row, pineapples, dominoes, hotdogs . . . try juggling all that at once.

and finally, are Melbourne and Western Bulldogs respected because of media perception and timing or is it actually footballing ability that leads to media fawning?

My opinion hasn't changed, nor would it if we appointed a coach an hour after removing Teague or waiting 40 odd days

RB you are far too clever for 90% of the spuds on here..
Well said..

If I'd been introduced to BIG FOOTY in March 2020, when lockdown began I would never have wasted my time on the jigsaw puzzles and building a hang-glider in the kitchen

Building hand gliders in the kitchen! That's making use of lockdown.

I've actually started a new business during lockdown too. Making yachts in my attic.

Sails have gone through the roof!
