Is it the right move for a team that just finished 13th and has a new coach though? I can see what adding an elite midfielder to an already good midfield did for the Bulldogs this year but I’m not sure we can justify paying up for a 29 year old at the moment.
Idk, the historical similarity does appeal

Sam 'The Forgotten Man' Philp is looking in ridiculously good shape on Nic Newman's instagram post #pipes

Can he play on the wing - speed and endurance athlete; know he’s more of an inside mid at TAC level but he seems to have traits for a wingman.

On Hawks... Wingard the only one I'd have a nibble at (he seems to like jumping off when things are tough to remain at a club on the up) if the price is right.

If we came to them with Pick 25 and a swap of future picks... I'd pull the trigger. But only if the salary cost is negligible i.e. if he's going to cost us $600K or more... we can't do it. Hawks may be willing to supplement his salary as a dump.

Wingard for a 2nd rounder and $400-500k? For sure. Tell him he plays half/small forward and has the chance to be a real leader of a young, dynamic forward line. Who wouldn't want to work with/mentor our Coleman Medallist and Charlie Curnow?

So does F1 for 21 get us a decent player from Hawthorn whilst moving some draft asset into this draft?

As in trading our future first to Hawthorn for 21 and a player?

It might, but it seems to run completely counter to what they're trying to do, which is load up on early picks this year.

They might do it if they couldn't find any other suitors for their players, and felt confident they could then flip out future first for a mid first rounder this year.

If they want a first round draft pick they'll have to pay a decent chunk of their salary. No club is trading that and paying their wage.

Other option is to let them go for peanuts (3rd rounder) and clubs pay their wage.

That's the thing, they are not trying to dump salaries for salary cap purposes so why would they take a 3rd rounder?

They are trying to get early draft picks and seeing what is out there.

Personally, i agree that clubs would only give up a first if Hawks pay a chunk.
That is why no clubs have shown any interest, because the hawks are not willing to pay part of the salary.
