Yeah na, Mark Athorn and Tim Powell can gag *ed - useless as **** on a bull, scary to think they were in the '93 grand final side, no wonder we got flogged

What? Who should have played in their place?

They were the best we had at the time, zero depth is the list managers fault.

Stop being a flog

At this stage it's looking like the AFL is prepared to give us a 3rd rounder as compensation if Jones was to move clubs. Our list management team is confident we can get Sholl for that.

So essentially if it all goes down like planned we'd be trading in a contracted player, for no draft pics, no extra list spot and we'd be saving on cap space too.

SPS for Young and Jones (31 yrs old) for Sholl would be pretty amazing.

Would we still be eligible for compensation for Jones if he requested a return to Carlton, but we refused to cooperate?
Can he just walk into any club that's shown interest that he desires?

Why are they reportedly offering him only a 1 year deal though (although I guess LukeJackson to Freo is a done deal, so they may have a SC squeeze)

From the sounds of it , we are very unlikely to trade in this year and just hit the draft (Dow will be traded, unfortunately probably only for a 3rd round pick or so I suspect)
Not if he wins the Liston trophy.

He’d have to wait until mid season draft, to see out the 18 month layoff.
I thought he was given more freedom than this due to the unusual circumstances, like several AFLW players that refused to vaccinate.

Simply put - he wouldn't. No player is going to publicly announce that they want to go to <insert club here> if that club has told them there is no place for them.

Jones will have suitors elsewhere, and he'll announce his intentions only when his management have effectively locked in a contract.

Liam retired whilst under contract.
His contract wasn’t terminated, he wasn’t delisted.
That's the big unknown for most people in this situation since the AFL is so closed-loop regarding contracts (unlike many other large sports).

If a player retires, what happens? Do they no longer receive their pay from the club and the contract is terminated? If not, are they technically still and employee, drawing a wage and just not playing? It's all very muddy and reeks of things being made up as we go by the stakeholders involved.

Depends when the third round pick is. If its the end of the round its pretty poor. If its tied to our ladder position then marginally better but still.

Mid round or better you'd probably take it.
Doesn't really matter much if we're planning on flicking it anyway to trade in Sholl as suggested.

All it means is the Cows would get a later pick in the draft.

Sholl would be a handy pick up though, good kick on either foot, and can handball with both hands at the same time. Very unique quality.

Don't know whether it's been already mentioned, but HS reporting Jones seen meeting Bulldogs today.
We get a Young FB from the doggies
They get an old FB from us

Seems fair...

Jones is tall and not named Naughton, English or Keath.

Bevo won't know WTF to do with him...

If we can turn Jones into Sholl - forget the pick - that's as big of a win as we could possibly hope for regardless of your feelings on Sholl. It's effectively a free hit.

We either get an upgrade at wing/outside mid for the cost of the list spot or we don't lose anything we haven't already given up and we can move on in 12-24 months.
