If we can turn Jones into Sholl - forget the pick - that's as big of a win as we could possibly hope for regardless of your feelings on Sholl. It's effectively a free hit.

We either get an upgrade at wing/outside mid for the cost of the list spot or we don't lose anything we haven't already given up and we can move on in 12-24 months.

Huge win.

I have liked Sholl the first time I watched him play in 2 weeks.

I’ll bet the AFL gives us absolutely nothing, they will likely allow us to trade him for whatever we can get.

And when he nominates a club and they give us a 4th rounder we’ll be once again ****ed over by the AFL

First time I have seen Fisher trying to draw high tackle free kicks and it is exactly like Ginnivan and other players. I don't like it, at all, for a number of reasons.

Opposition will work you out, tackling wise and knowing you are less likely to release the ball to a player with more space.

I hope that the AFL modify the rules and or start ignoring paying a high tackle when it is a manufactured attempt to draw frees

Would rather Jones just come back onto our list.

With our backline injury woes he would have been massive this year.

One of the best key defenders in the league. Could be the difference in a flag tilt in the next year or 2

Jones is versatile as well, can play ruck and forward at a pinch. With a resilient body not prone to breaking down.

Everyone has a right to be vaccinated or not, I don’t believe that just because he didn’t want to be vaccinated that he isn’t committed to the team/club. He’s cost himself half a mill ffs, does that mean he’s not committed to his family?

For the record, I’m one who’s had 3 vaccinations and will get a 4th soon and don’t understand why you wouldn’t be vaccinated, but that’s my choice…

Carlton will clearly get compensation as the AFL needs Carlton to allow Jones to be on a list (due to some rule about a player who retires has to be retired for 18 months) - it would be already worked out and agreed upon by both the AFL and Carlton (just like most things in the AFL - for example, the bailey smith at suspension for drugs.....agreed sanction worked out between AFL, Doggies and Smith management)

Be good if multiple clubs are interested in Jones. Would drive up his price. And suspect that any AFL compo would be based on the formula they use currently for free agents. Higher price = better compo.

I dont think the price or number of clubs interested will have any impact. I reckon it will be compo agreed by the AFL and Carlton before any club even signs him

I’ve seen far too many things happen to Carlton that don’t happen to other clubs to be confident of anything from AFL house

Yep, I got my tin foil hat on for very good reasons

It's completely bizarre.

A competitive carlton bring in so much money.

Would love to see television viewership per club.

Suspect we'd be one of the major draw cards bringing in the TV dollars.

I agree with the sentiment.

But listening to Voss's comments on the topic, it sounds like bridges have been burnt and rejoining Carlton is not an option.

We have to move on and make the best of the situation.

Agree there's no chance he comes back. Sounds like bridges are burnt.

But purely as a player and where we are at. He would have continued to be the perfect fit for another couple of years.

Hopefully we get some compensation for him at least.

The whole situation is just a bit sad.

Regardless if you agree or disagree with his beliefs or choices, everyone is worse off by what happened. He has taken a half million dollar hit to stand by his beliefs and personal choices.

The clubs had to battle on without him on short notice.

And the relationship between he and the club seems damaged.

The thing is it's of no importance what you or I believe about his decision, of more importance was how the club and the rest of the team felt about his decision.

Take into account that there was at least one of his teammates who was in a highly compromised position with his immune system and you can see how it could be an issue.

He exercised his rights, with every decision you take comes consequences.

Good luck to him wherever he finishes up. The club has clearly moved on from him, time for us supporters to do the same thing.

money isn't everything - I'd say he feels much better off living by his values - something a lot of people wish they were better at I'm sure.........
His stand point has split option so I'm not going to get into that

But gotta respect him for standing by his values, and the personal sacrifices he made to stand by them

yeah, feel the same way, reckon some of the issue was people struggling with him living so tight to his principles.........it ain't just ghandi & mandela.....

If that was strictly true, he probably wouldn't want to make a comeback to the AFL and earn probably more coin than any other job he could do outside of footy.

He is entitled to his views on Vaccinations but by the same token, given the rapid rise/surge of new Covid cases again, who is to say the AFL won't bring back the no Jab, No Play policy (reckon we will probably have to wear masks again at the footy before the end of the H and A Season)

For that reason alone (aside from his age), I wouldn't bring him back as a player, but also not going to badmouth him and wish him all the best if he gets another shot at AFL level
