Accurate, though the benefit of picking later rather than early is that the risk is lower. Burning a pick the in the 40s isn't as bad as burning a top 10 pick on someone who would have dropped down.Works both ways though - just as likely there are players who go in the 30-50 range who may have failed to impress in their U/18 year and gone rookie/undrafted.
Hadn't even considered next years group being compromised too. ****ing virus. There are question marks on this years draft because of Covid, but those are amplified even more for next year, as that group has missed so much football. Didn't even get to see their 16's carnival.
There will still be some very good players coming out of it, but the worry is their development will take a lot longer, which will create a gap in our age profile.
Similar to this year though there will be some gems in the midseason draft in 2021.

damn that brigade........Was just joking there matey, was in fact mocking the "blinky Bill" brigade
Writing was on the wall for Ramsay when he didn't crack it for a match late season. Pity, had a really good year in the 2s. Gibbo's injury came at a really bad time for him. Best wishes to both.Gibbons is understandable, list has gone past him.
Ramsay a bit disappointing as he seemed to be showing some decent signs this year. Maybe a chance to rookie/SSP? If not, it's not the end of the world - better players than him have been and gone too.
Robbie did have a period when he was a top flight ruckman (believe it or not) . Go back and gave a look at that close semi final loss to West Coast in 2011 where he took on and beat Cox and Natanui with Kreuzer out injured.Yep.... Atleast it wasn't like the Robbie Warnock trade. Felt like both parties were being absolutely ridiculous about that trade for such a glorioussss player...
It's the sort of year where picks 35-60 might yield 2-3 kids who turn out champions and should have been picked top 10, but 15 or so that won't play a game. Pot luck as to which one you get.
I remember reading once where Clem Smith was being touted as a potential no 1 a year out. Was all Australian as well. Ended poorly.Interesting that the top 20 is so desirable this year. I'd be happy to not have a pick up there. Countless examples of players who just weren't rated a year out and come in to top 10 as their top age year progresses. Such little footy I reckon the top 40 will have random guns all the way through.
Oliver wasn't top 100 a year out, I think Bont wasn't, Ed Richards was a late bolter. On the flip side macreadie was number 1 a year out from his draft, as was SPS. Intriguing info nontheless thanks for sharing 43.
Nothing on the Carlton website about Lewis Young... a bit embarrassing ?
Coniglio on the trade table, lol the AFL saved our asses on that one
Had visions of you saying this as a pirate, on deck with a pirate hook hand. Was just joking there matey, was in fact mocking the "blinky Bill" brigade
Anyone listening to Eddie's presser on trade radio?
Carlton didn't offer him a coaching role they only offered him a field marketing role. While Geelong has offered him a development coaching role that's the reason why he's gone to Geelong.
Rachele? For the most part yes. We will be watching the draft closely and if certain players are available we will be actively trying to trade up.
But there are a lot of teams wanting to be in the top 20 this year, so could be a fruitless adventure.
If Rory Lobb is looking to head back to GWS maybe Cogs can go to the Dockers. Mutual salary dumps for overpaid players.
will the additional AFL support for Cogs be passed into freo ?If Rory Lobb is looking to head back to GWS maybe Cogs can go to the Dockers. Mutual salary dumps for overpaid players.
