or they negotiated a deal that worked for all involved - this incessant need to win deals.......believe it or not, trades can be made to benefit both parties....
Yep.... Atleast it wasn't like the Robbie Warnock trade. Felt like both parties were being absolutely ridiculous about that trade for such a glorioussss player...

Forgotten that one. What happened?

Forgot he existed.
I was there the day the hamstring died.....and we were singing......bye bye, now you're out of the side, drove my citroen to the oval, but the feeling had died, and good old boys were drinking gator and dry, singing this will be the day Pick 12 dies.......

That could be us for the trade period, so if it is, so happy with it all. Young, Hewett and Cerra is real solid.

SPS goes back home and good luck to him, I hope he makes a real go at it.

Wanganeen-Milera please. Please please please.

Then Conway with our second.

Would make for an almost perfect offseason.

Accumulator with good disposal - Cerra.
Defensive mid with neat disposal - Hewett.
Wingman with elite disposal - Wanganeen-Milera.
Developing ruckman - Conway.
Depth KPD/Ruck - Young.

Which pick are you proposin to use on Wanganeen-Milera ?

There were whispers on here last night we could chase someone else? Not the SPP stuff but I swear I saw it?

I think that’s us done tbh, if so that’s quite a nice feeling to get such a key deal on Cerra done with just under a week of the period to go, plus that SPS deal.

This is what happens when you play SPS out of position for five years and then barely play him in his final year. We got what we deserved.

We got a developing KPP player who can play multiple positions, happy we got what we deserved.

Samo did not deserve midfield minutes, need mids that run both ways and can defend.

Whatever we're apparently trying to flick our future first for.

Looking at the players expected to go in the 10-20 range, he's the standout for me in terms of what we need. Lots of general defenders and solid mid-forwards, neither of which are a need for us. No notable key position players or ruck options, which we may want to pick up now to start developing. One winger who is considered to be the best user in the draft...he's the one for me.

If we've got a good read on where he'll be available, and can trade our way to that pick, I'm sold. If there's a chance someone goes real early on him, then I'd prefer to wait til draft night and try and do a live swap when we know he's gettable. Like the way Melbourne went about getting Kozzie Pickett - were obviously confident that their backline, midfield and ruck stocks were set up, identified a pacy pressure forward as a need and went after a good one aggressively.

For the most part yes. We will be watching the draft closely and if certain players are available we will be actively trying to trade up.
But there are a lot of teams wanting to be in the top 20 this year, so could be a fruitless adventure.

If there’s a year to trade it’s certainly this one.

Too many unprovens in the draft.
It's a good year to have mid-late round draft picks imo. Lots of years guys shoot up draft boards based on late junior career form. Now they don't have that opportunity they will still be picked in the 30-50 range.

Works both ways though - just as likely there are players who go in the 30-50 range who may have failed to impress in their U/18 year and gone rookie/undrafted.

It's the sort of year where picks 35-60 might yield 2-3 kids who turn out champions and should have been picked top 10, but 15 or so that won't play a game. Pot luck as to which one you get.

Interesting that the top 20 is so desirable this year. I'd be happy to not have a pick up there. Countless examples of players who just weren't rated a year out and come in to top 10 as their top age year progresses. Such little footy I reckon the top 40 will have random guns all the way through.

Oliver wasn't top 100 a year out, I think Bont wasn't, Ed Richards was a late bolter. On the flip side macreadie was number 1 a year out from his draft, as was SPS. Intriguing info nontheless thanks for sharing 43.

There are question marks on this years draft because of Covid, but those are amplified even more for next year, as that group has missed so much football. Didn't even get to see their 16's carnival.
There will still be some very good players coming out of it, but the worry is their development will take a lot longer, which will create a gap in our age profile.
Similar to this year though there will be some gems in the midseason draft in 2021.
