AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Exactly, the AFL know the can do whatever the like because people will continue to buy memberships, buy tickets and turn up to games and watch it on tv. As long as viewers keep watching it on tv then the big money keeps rolling in.It's only unaccountable because the fans don't hold them to account. Whinging on social media isn't holding them to account.
Stop watching and stop paying to go to games, that's how we hold them to account. Alas we love the game to much to do it; Our love for the game outweighs our disdain for the governing body.
I think most sports leagues in the world are in the same boat right now.
WTF??????. You must have dictated this to G Batman to type it up for you. In my few years on this forum I haven't witnessed anything like this since.good to see a semblance of sanity has returned to this thread - 38, my stance is well known here - I follow the club and have done through thick and thin, it seems like mostly thin the past 20 years but there have been a few gold nuggets amongst the sh*t - every poster has the right to put forward their views, I get it - my unwavering point has always been, we f’ed up - even at the time I had no idea how badly, but clearly we did and even those in the "yeah, but they did too" camp acknowledge that - the afl is a massive, slippery, behemoth of an enterprise - somewhere deep down in the depths of its black soul, there still puffs a tiny pilot light shining for the people's game - unfortunately all the rest is glitz, showbiz, future shoring, revenue raising and other assorted non-game sh*t that has little or nothing to do with you or me sitting in the outer (is there still an outer?) eating a cold pie and drinking pointless coffee - I maintain my sanity and integrity in life by putting my hand up when I have made a mistake - bleating, justifying, minimizing, deflecting, denying......all that sh*t is anathema to me - when our supporters turn to behaviours that smack of endless complaining and blaming others for our current malaise, it shits me to tears and I usually (very gently & respectfully of course) suggest they stfu - it achieves nothing and to get back to your point, is mostly unfounded and lacking any concrete evidence.....
.....second paragraph - I get we don't always get a good run from the media - I get the afl is as consistent as melbourne's barristas - I get they change rules at the drop of a hat if they believe it will serve them or the newer clubs in the future - I understand we still have 'free kick of the week' and it drives people batty - I understand the tribunal and its outcomes are a running joke, yes, the newer clubs get a golden run with players and academies, this is to fast-track their consolidation so the league no longer has to prop them up and can move onto more important issues like ensuring the every day footy lover can't get to a grand final due to the price of a ticket etc.....
.....third paragraph - because it is such a fluid, ever changing, UNACCOUNTABLE monster of a business, the afl can pretty much do as it pleases and regularly does - if supporters aren't prepared to cop this, they will be in a permanent state of frustration, anger, defensiveness and protest - that's not my idea of following the cfc - we barely have any remaining aspects of the game that I grew up loving as it is - no ground, no big hits, no great one on one head to head clashes of champions, hardly any fta coverage, no outstanding reporters or commentators, no tribal rivalries, no access to the rooms, the peanuts are all in the stands and not in the hurtled bag, I could go on......the game has to be at the core of our support......
.....fourth paragraph - what we do have left is the navy jumper, the cfc insignia and princes park - I hold onto those three things in a desperate effort to continue my support, support that like most here was formed early and continues for all sorts of nutty or sentimental reasons - I won't be disrupted by drive bys that want to moan about other clubs getting it better than us (sure it happens) or us being unfairly treated (mostly it's our own sh*t) or the media hating us (laughable, the media doesn't do hate, it does fast, superficial content and churn, churn, churn) or "it's payback for x, y, z" (what the fu**?)
.....fifth paragraph - when evidence of corruption, or match fixing, or umpires taking money, or players running dead comes to light, I'm gone - that would be the end for me - all the rest of the afl's obese orchestral manouvers in the dark I have to cop - as long as there are 22 players running through that misspelled, blue wall of dunny paper every week, I'll be there, hopefully with hbf & meb and their entourage - I'm tipping those boys will be wearing the navy too and I hope the game is still around for them to enjoy for many decades to come.........
seems a very specific demographic.............Jews and Italians lived in Carlton. Plenty of them made it big later in life.
My great grandfather and my grandfather came from the goldfields and settled down the road from the Sarah Sands pub. They followed the noisy Carlton fans to Princess Park. My grandfather took my father to the ground who then toon me then I have taken my kids and my grandkids. What an exciting footballing history/ dynasty. Building for the next lot of faithful Blues!!!We missed out on Pavlich
Again
Imagine if we get Brander & Ling; we’ll get a big collection of top 20 from the 2017 draft - what a quality draft year
Cerra may be one of a few exception though

easy peakie, just saying you only talk when you have something to say - plus you single-handedly re-badged our ground..............Sh*t happens????
Post only if it improves the silence...easy peakie, just saying you only talk when you have something to say - plus you single-handedly re-badged our ground..............
Cheers. On silent mode for now- until the Blues create mayhem across the fixture- sooner rather than later!!Post only if it improves the silence...

I think that apart from your point 2 , every intelligent individual who was tasked with ensuring the future and the growth of our game , especially in the northern states would do exactly as you detail.I'm not saying the AFL is one big mountain of conspiracy... but if you tick yes to more than one of these... you make the call in what you think.
1. AFL head office does have vested interest in ensuring GWS and GC17 have success ASAP?
2. AFL head office looks after their mates, even if one their own does some naughty things they still manage to find their way to a position in club land?
3. AFL head office does their best to bury stuff/details to the benefit of the AFL competition (read some of the stuff relating to * scandal)?
4. AFL head office would have preferred North, Bulldogs, StKilda, Hawks, Melbourne to have relocated or merged in the past, but would never consider such a thing happening to Collingwood, *, or certain other clubs?
5. AFL head office doesn't curtail somewhat to the networks in terms of changes to rules, times, venues in order to land an extra few $$$ in media rights?
And there are many more questions I could ask...
You be the judge.
