Ladhams has made zero contribution to Sydney this year, overrated and no better than Pitto.
Hickey is a very good contributor no doubt, we are not in as bad as shape in this area as you continue to make out.

You are completely forgetting and/or ignoring the obvious - the grass is always greener on the other side.

Crippa got votes in just about every game Pitto played. Hardly a vote when TDK played ruck. It is not a co-incidence. Pitto is under rated

Pitto was short of a gallop after his injury but was still influential. And was excellent early on.

He's a very strong body which means it limits what the opposition ruckman can do - effective at nullifying / spoiling the hitouts even if he's not winning them. And once he gets the ball he's got pretty good hands in close.

I just hope we can keep our best 22 on the park next year. Makes all the difference.

Ladhams is from all accounts a v loose unit. Was basically moved on because of his predelection for the extra curricular side of the game. If he got himself on the straight and narrow could be a good footballer.

Hickey is a classic ruck story. He was massive on the weekend yet has taken 10+ years to come good (consistently) They are a strange breed ruckman. Many take years to come good, have a couple of break out seasons then vanish back into the ether of mediocrity or age gets them.
Occasionally you get a Gawn or a Nic Nat but the absolute exception than norm.

As long as Pitto / TDK make a contest and give us a few first looks al la start of the year it's all we need. Far too much debate re ruck abilities or lack of for mine. Both could/ prob will have a breakout couple of years over the next few. The thing with TDK is he is a hybrid size that could lend itself to far more than just ruck which I guess is the tease that leads to so much debate.

What are our chances of using pick 28 on Tom Mitchell. Reduced contract to play in another premiership.
Unlikely due to lack of need, mate. But personally, think you can't have enough quality and I don't mind Cez and Walsh rotating on the outside a bit more.

But it won't happen and we need more youth. Reckon we fancy our chances in the second round this year, quietly.

Darragh Joyce. Carlton are interested. DFA.
Highly doubt it. 13 games in 5 years? If we aren't going for McAsey anymore then I don't see why we'd be interested in Joyce.

We have a hard working but average Ruck division and when we succumb to long term injuries in that position, we’re in all sort of pooh.

Reported tonight by John Ralph that "Grundy has chosen Melbourne and only Melbourne"...
That takes us out of the running for Grundy, who we weren't even in the running for anyway...

Posters have obviously forgot how good Pittonet was before injury,
he was regarded by most of us, as our most important player...

I'm in the camp we need another backup ruckman...
A reliable ruck that's happy to play VFL and stand up if there is an injury... Possibly a state league player...

Still don't see Mirkov as ready yet, good tap ruck, but the rest (strength and around the ground) is barely VFL standard...
Also much as he want's to be JSOS isn't a ruckman... IMO and stats back it up, he's been a liability in HO and clearances when he's in there...

A non banged up JSOS will probably need to be our full time 3rd tall forward, if we don't draft a KPF or TDK can't grasp the forward/ruck role in the off season...

Have you seen the 2 ruckman in this weeks granny???

Wouldn’t call them world beaters…
Not sure about that, Hickey is a very underrated player...
Wish we had a younger version of him at Carlton...

Problem is that getting a quality back-up ruckman takes away development time from Mirkov.

If he's not quite ready, we need him rucking full time in the ressies, getting around the ground, doing all that stuff he needs to improve on to be a viable senior option.

The reality is that if he's not quite ready then he's basically fourth in line anyway. Pittonet and TDK as options 1 and 1.5 depending on which way we go. If one's injured, the other takes the reins. With a more settled backline and some experience in the system for Durdin, we've got the option to swing Young into the ruck. Then of course there is JSOS as a supporting ruck for any of the three above. Mirkov is only needed if we're down both first choice ruckman and 2 or more KPPs, and at that point we're ****ed anyway.

Odds of us being in that position in the first few rounds are slim, it's more cumulative injuries that could derail us. But that means a greater probability of it happening late in the season when Mirkov has had another big block of development games. You'd think by that stage he could come in and ruck for a 2-3 game block. There's also the SSP if we get a bunch of preseason injuries, and the MSD if we're hammered by the midway point.

And you know what, plenty of sides have solid tap rucks who don't do a heap around the ground. Cameron, Stanley, Preuss, McInerney, Draper, Naitanui - arguably Witts and O'Brien. A lot of those are first choice rucks as well, let alone fourth or fifth in line. If we have to use Mirkov for a month, then we do what we did all season and adapt a bit.

Exploring some salary dump options (us taking on salary for picks), doubtful it will happen as players have taken unders to bring in established players and don't want to ruin that good will but talking with those players to hear their thoughts.
Appreciate the update, tcp. Too right - would spit in the face a bit having already taken unders. Maybe they can do a little from column A, a little from B.

A being salary dumps to get in picks and talent, B being a new car for those who've signed on for unders (part of the cap, of course).

Guys who will be close to best 22?

Been fairly poor output from that strategy the past 6 years albeit possibly necessary to meet the TPP floor.
