“I am extremely disappointed that the comment from my club was that it was fully endorsed, when in fact I voted for James Hird to be the coach of Essendon,’’ Sheedy said.

“The vote was 6-1.

‘’Now, I would’ve expected that to have been written, and that in the end the board actually won that vote.

“But I want to make sure all the fans know that I voted for James Hird and I’m extremely disappointed with the report that went out from the Essendon media department.

“I’m not happy.

“Don’t tell the Essendon fan base an untruth.

“This is what happens when you bring new people into the club.

“I actually felt insulted that Hird would think I voted against him after what he’s done for our club.’’

....surely Sheedy has to go
He didn’t actually say that did he?

This is what I feared most when the board spilled in Sheedy's favour and Hird was being touted as a genuine coaching option. Thank God it didn't play out that way in the end and we actually made a smart, rational decision to appoint Scott. Hopefully we can start to move forward as a club now. Sheedy is an embarrassment.

He’s not an embarrassment, he just lives in his bubble of success and is good buds with Hird, he doesn’t have to agree but I thought publicly calling it out was not a good look, unprofessional and undermines the professionalism and PR from the club. So yeah, not a good look.

So forget what the coaching panel recommended and just appoint Hird because he was a great player!!? He’s either taking the piss or has lost his marbles. And then to even come out and say what he’s said! Have to seriously cast doubt on his judgement and therefore suitability to be on the board

Sheeds has many talents but understanding governance isn't one of them.

There's no surprise Sheeds wanted Hird but once the decision to hire Scott was made then it had to be presented as a unified decision and Sheeds has confirmed what many here have been saying about this club being insular and inward looking.

Wow. Been a big supporter of Sheeds on the board as an outsider mainly with most saying he has no place. I have believed that because I think he understands football clubs and listens to members plus it's always good to have different ideas and for people to be challenged. This though is completely unacceptable he is on a board that has made a decision he's a part of that board and at worst he makes no comment. The board decision is one made by the board the vote is not relevant 7-0/4-3 makes no difference the board made a decision and publically that's that. In the meeting give your view and once you leave that's left and all decisions are supported.

Doing this publicly as he has, on the very first day of Scott being coach, is absolutely and unequivocally an embarrassment. He’s gotta **** off and pronto at that.

No, he is an embarrassment. This article and the comments he was making on radio before we even started our process are unbecoming of someone in his position. He's a relic of the past and the quicker he's gone the better for us. Being mates with Hird is one thing, but actually voting for him to be the senior coach and publicly trashing the club when it doesn't go his way is another. Egomaniac.
