Hardwicke is the best coach of the so called modern era. He actually coached sides to premierships.
I could've coached two of Hawthorns flags from my shed, and don't forget the Cats major choke gifted him another one.
Nah. You've got it backwards, Clarkson got some extremely average players to multiple flags.

Take the red and black glasses off when assessing the situation. I hate Hawthorne but Clarkson got them the flags, not the other way around

These things are rarely that clear cut. It sounds like the coteries have been in Clarkson's ear for some time and possibly had been told that he'd potentially be interested. Now the s**t has hit the fan and there's an opportunity to make that a reality. Or maybe members of the board engineered this so they'd have an opening to bring him in. Who the * knows?
Yeah, that's why you have to be a bit doubtful on people making such absolute statements with so much to play out.

The coteries should be the first domino to fall. Too much influence IMO.

It is frustrating to the point I want to sign out of BigFooty, de activate socials, I love football to much that I probably won't but it has become very tempting the last 24 hours with how little care there is for this football club I have defended so staunchly through some of the shittest periods in AFL history.
I understand. It has a huge impact for me. Planning retirement... Do I buy close to Melbourne in order to visit game or central Queensland coast for that life style but little footy. These are important times for the club and me.

Not sure we have the time for process.

Pretty much.

I look at it like the addict having enough clarity to check himself in somewhere after that binge from which there was almost no return.

It's a last, desperate move.

The simple reality is that we have no idea how to get out of this mess, this 17 years of incompetence and irrelevance.

Just look at Campbell and what he says about Rutten and that idiotic email from Brasher.

It's essentially that we're going for stability because, like everything else, it worked at Richmond. But they're too afraid to go external with a review because they don't want to be confronted with the truth of our situation, that the boys club cannot justify its existence. The status quo is the addict on the latest last binge, telling himself he'll give it up tomorrow.

Competent and benevolent dictatorship was always going to be the only way out.

Clarkson, is the external audit. If we're not going to listen to him we're not going to listen to anyone any time soon.

He's been responsible for most of the modern trends in footy. Almost all of which we haven't been able to implement.

He'd be great for the players because expectations would increase immediately. There is this completely misplaced concern about expectations being too much for the kids. Voss hasn't had a problem getting buy in at Carlton. Fagan hasn't had a issue at Brisbane. Hinkley is loved. That means it's not all just reputation.

The club must manage expectations. There are risks, the club would have to shut the media department down. The master coach will grow the membership anyway.

The common denominator of the Carlton failures was an awful list without the kids to sell to a rebuild mentality.

We've got stacks of kids to work with. We should be better than this but we're not.

Imagine having Shield dropped, completely out of the 22 and back playing VFL because his defensive running was so poor?

Clarko I could see doing this. The same Clarkson who told three time premiership players they are probably better off going elsewhere

They do a lot of good behind the scenes too. The problem is that because of the money they put in they feel like they are entitled to get involved. They need to put their money in, enjoy the perks and shut the hell up so that the people in their roles can do their jobs.

Not only that, but no one would question it. If Rutten had dropped Parish there'd be an outcry.

If he told the head of the football department that x, y and z were ****ed and needed to be changed it'd get done. No one at our shitty club that's done nothing of note (except get a bunch of players banned by WADA) in the last 20 years is going to push back against someone like Clarkson.

I reckon we’ll end up with him as coach and I am coming to terms with it.

The trouble is the board doesn't have the authority to push back against their influence. Like what have they done to indicate they know better than some random rich prick? In successful clubs the senior leadership has somewhat of a track record they can point to when coteries start saying they could do stuff better.

This is why God invented bloody big TV's and shit weather for Victorians, enjoy your Northern retirement.

Lloyd himself is a chief contributor to the rot that has set in at the club.

Brilliant player, but like a lot of superstar forward he was at his best when he focused on himself and the me-first attitude that has plagued us for 15+years can be traced to the period of his captaincy under Knights.
Amen.

Yep, too many people looking after there own self interests. The new bloke calling for this external review is the first time I can get excited about the words the club spouts
