AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
After being down 1 goal to 5 at one stage in the first (Stringer dominating), it was a pretty resounding win by 8 goals.
Nash was handy near goal especially in the 2nd qtr where he directly fed off two great set ups for goals, and then kicked 2 in a minute himself. Other than that he was a bit haphazard, particularly when playing through the middle from the wing.
Scrim was solid - not involved a huge amount but when it went near him he marked it, and when he got the ball in traffic he'd step out of it nicely. Used the pill perfectly every time.
Cousins was heavily involved but geez his disposal was poor - sloppy handpasses, errant kicks. Cost a goal or two both ways. His work in close was good.
Maginness had a decent game in the clinches. Was involved in a lot of centre clearances.
Pepper flashed in and out across half back. Just a game this time. But he's a nice balanced player with a neat kick.
Morris kicked 3 goals, but one was from a fifty, and one was Mitch Lewis took a towering mark but had to go off with the blood rule and Morris was closest. He did take a bunch of strong contested marks himself. He also got abused by multiple teammates for not handpassing at one point in the 3rd. There's great camaraderie in this team but they're obviously being coached to demand a very high standard of each other. They sound very unforgiving at times.
Ned Reeves didn't dominate the ruck quite as much today (still won the position) but the taps he did get were some of the cleanest I've seen since Salmon. Set us on our way again and again. Finn the main beneficiary today. Took a towering pack mark in the goal square for our first goal, and laid some cracking tackles.
DGB - best I've seen him. Lots of defensive marks, ground ball follow ups, good spoils.
Jeka was moving well, pushing out past 50 and taking some great marks. Wheeling around and hitting targets most of the time. Looked dangerous all game, despite not hitting the scoreboard. He really does run/walk/move like Carey. Got that duck waddle.
Lewis had a similar level game, but stayed closer to goal. Was giving Essendon plenty to worry about. Should have kicked 4 - missed a soda and also the one for the blood rule that Morris got. He laid 3 or 4 great tackles, including one where he chased a small bloke for 60-70 metres and just got him. Resulted in a goal on the turn over. Good game.
Hartley just does it on the bit at this level. He's like a David Mirra that can kick - reads it, marks it, 50 metre bullet pass.
Greaves just played the first half. Didn't get a lot of opportunity to display his kicking skills but he defended really well, won a lot of ball on the ground in defence and dished off releasing handballs. Saved for tonight in case there's an injury in the warm up.
Jack Saunders played the last 3 quarters and worked into the game well. He has great speed, evasion and seemed to be in the right spots. In the second half he was very prominent.
Bramble didn't play.
They enforced the new rules - 3 in the 50 from each team at every throw in, 1 from each team in the goal squares. They also seemed to enforce it sporadically for kick outs, but only some of the time. There was one farcical moment in the last qtr when a Hawk and Bomber both didn't make it back into our fwd 50. Despite the Hawk being closer to making it back, Essendon got the free kick. Mitch Lewis, who was in the square, was ropeable. You can tell the players hate this rule. When there's a throw in down the other end of the ground, they have to sprint as far as the opposite goal square, the ball gets thrown in, and they sprint back to where they were before.
For Box Hill, there's a heap to work with. They didn't play a lot of their top players (long run into this season) but some of the ones that played looked great. Jai Newcombe looks a beast of a kid at the stoppages, Jessie Cuccinotta buzzed around all game getting stacks of it and kicked 3 goals.
Clarko was there for the first 3 qtrs.
3.4 - 9.7 - 12.8 - 17.9

As much as we would all like that, I just cant see it.Fantastic to see Nash amongst the goals. I really believe he just needs to keep confidence and he’ll be best 22.
Cheers allTop report!
Was Maginness clean with his skills?
Thanks
