I'm sure the general public still think we have no decent youth.

Karl Norman will get one by years end, possibly Davies too. And Kade will jag one next year for sure.

All to avail, BJ is the best youngster in the comp and should win the whole thing.

Could have had one more if Bret 'The Squid' Thornton hadve only played 10 games last year instead of 11... but i'm happy because he'll be great anyway

Perhaps the fact that there are very few quality players eligible has played a part in Carlton getting a few nominations this season.

Are there any genuinely good players who have played and haven't got a nomination yet?

Many clubs (mine included) are holding their kids back and thus don't have more then one or two players vying for a nomination.

Good on Carlton for getting some nominations, but lets not get carried away about quality youngsters.

I don’t think it’s any weaker than 2001. I think you’re just comparing it to last year, and last year was a freak year which won’t be repeated for a while. I think Allan Murray’s looking pretty good, and he hasn’t been nominated yet. Salopek and Schammer are two with big reputations yet to be nominated. There are probably others. Clubs hold back youngsters every year, this year’s no different.

Besides, rather than worrying about the fact that (according to you) there’s not a great deal of competition, if you watch them you’ll see that players like Waite and Fisher have plenty of quality about them. And I don’t think we’re getting carried away.

Three isn't a whole heap.

Compare how many draftees have played this year, to last.

I'm sure clubs are holding more back this season, well that's the trend i see anyway.

They are both talented players, but to say, because of a few nominations, you have proved the football world wrong about your younger players is more then a tad OTT.

Is it not fair to say that all other clubs have a better group of kids (under 21's) then Carlton?

All clubs? I seriously doubt it... of course i have my biases, but they are really good players

And the reaction by morons in the media by Caroline Wilson (not that anyone cares what she has to say.. ugly slapper), Walls, and Lyon is what i call over the top

Just my interpretation, happy to be shown otherwise.

Never doubted that Waite and Fisher are talented.

I already said that comparing to last year is a pointless exercise.

The general view of the football world was that we had no talented youngsters - I believe that we've proved that theory wrong.

That's the standard line we hear every day so why not stick to it eh?
I dunno exact ages off the top of my head but I'd say that the u21s at Essendon, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Port and maybe even Brisbane aren't clearly better than ours. I'm not saying ours are clearly better than theirs, just saying we aren't really behind them, especially the first three I listed. We also have a few players who could be KPP in there, something that a club like Hawthorn and even Geelong lacks (although as far as talent goes they are better off).

Regardless, the trend is still there imo.

Two years ago, Geelong would have debuted all our draftees by Round 10, this year, all three are looking at spending all year in the VFL, despite excellent form.

We don't lack KPP's. We lack a superstar CHF, nothing more.

That's probably because you already have close to the youngest side in the AFL running around.

Fair point, but we were also very young two years ago.

Geelong have made a concerted effort to keep Mackie and Lonergan from the big time, despite some dominating performances at VFL level.

Isn't Cam Mooney good enough?

For what? ;)

Gumby is a hack, no doubt. He's been usurped by Matt McCarthy, and Tom Lonergan is already a better player (despite being held back).

If Gumby wasn't a favourite of Bomber Thompson he'd have been dropped 6 weeks ago (like most fans wanted.

I am starting to swing that way Sporny.

Waite has the ability to do some great things (and some farking horrible things) but he looks good. Fisher is going to be a very good footballer. Norman loves a scrap, and Mick will be outstanding for his development.

For christ sake get on North's board and tell them this.

Some of them want him back.

You serious? Was it Myee8's suggestion?

In Digby and Petrie you have one of the better combinations going around, and with Hale and McIntosh coming through, there is the chance North could have the best forward line in the league within 3 years.

Gumby's only attribute is that he can intimidate the opposition, not an area where North struggle (although trading Choppy affected that area, obviously).
