It's funny I think the old ' outside players aren't as valuable as inside players ' trope that gets thrown around willy nilly on here when every trade thread bar a couple have ' outside speed ' as their biggest offseason need

Maybe it's time to put that tired old dog to bed , seeing as nearly every club is chasing it maybe it is a bit more valuable than people believe

God knows Freo will be desperate to find some if we lose both wingers

huh ?
money is a huge factor but dont get to cocky that its the only reason Saints are a hell of a lot less skilled player wise than freo yet we ended the season on the same amount of wins so our scope of improvment isnt to be disregarded. Money is a factor but Brad obviously sees potential in what we are building so you can quit with the disrespect of our club ..
i dont even know what the heck you mean about being burnt by promises on Bigfooy ...

Talk about triggered. I didnt even mention the two teams, and how did you find disrespect from that?

Thinking Brad sees potential in what you are building, LOL. The guy has won three premiership, is a BnF winner and got to play AFL with his brother. He is moving to St Kilda for one reason and one reason only...

Make that 900k reasons!

If St Kilda goes out and wins the flag in his time at the club, bonus, but that's not why he is moving back to Melbourne...

MONEY is the reason!!!

Depend just look at GCS manager said nothing at all, such a bad manager and just give up pick 2 for Weller. If you think he is worth it go for it, if not use your draft pick and draft Hayden young. You can't have B hill and Hayden young no opposition want to give up good player and make you strong against them.

When it all comes down to it, this is exactly why Freo will ask for the summit come trade week. This is lost on so many!

It really is up to St Kilda and whether they need Achres and a couple of 18yo's next year or Bradley Hill!

So you think it will get done day of trade period then?

If the deal has been agreed to in principle.

I believe you will be disappointed.
i think there are other moves that will need to be done first but i think realistically both teams have been talking this through for some time ... Bell is trying to establish himeself as a big man about town so he would be making noise but i reckon behind that there is progress already made

Freo doesn’t want to lose Hill, he is contracted for another 2 years.

Let me spell it out to you. You need Fremantle to release him from his contract.

You could of offered overs to Martin from GC who is out of contract. You could of offered overs to Langdon who is out of contract. You could of offered overs to many out of contracted players. But the Saints offered Hill $900k because he’s a quality player, you don’t offer a top 25 salary in the league to a player not worth it. he is also contracted, why would Fremantle give up a quality contracted player. The Saints are going to have to pay on the trade table if they want Fremantle to give him up.

and pick 5 is most certainly paying up... no other club is going to come close to offering that ... i wonder if the Saints finished higher on the ladder and got pick 10 in the draft would the "must be pick 5 and extras " be still present or would it be "must be pick 10 and extras"

The GOAT tag is mainly meme these days but he is still pretty highly rated by a lot of people since it is clear he has a lot of potential but has been played out of position a lot by Richo.
this is why i dont want him traded out for nothing .. i think Blake is one player who under Ratten as coach has a huge scope for improvement. i reckon if ever there was a time for Blake to break out and become a damaging player its under a differant coach to Richo ... its not a dig at Richobut he liked to play it safe and used Blake as his mr fix it ... i reckon Ratten is earmarked us to be more bold in the way we play and i reckon he will be set to let Blake play his natural game not fillinf up holes .

Why wouldn’t pick 5 do it?i would have thought the Saints would be happy to pay that given they rate the player so highly to pay him $900k pa on a long contract. Not sure he is worth much more than that.
i think pretty much every Saints supporter is resolved to the fact its costing us pick 5 for hill in some shap or form ... the talk of pick 5 and 2020 1st .. or pick 5 and Acres is where most of us saints supporters are putting up the wall .. pick 5 alone is overs but thats what we gotta pay that cause we want a contracted player but anything more is just crazy talk
He's not. But look at it this way. Freo are losing 2 wings - Saints will have Hill and Billings. Where would Acres rather be next year?

He's steak knives, but decent for Freo where he fills a need. He's just 'handy depth' at St Kilda. They could let him go and not feel it.
if Richo was still coach i would agree ... but Richo was pretty one dimensional with how he saw players he ran Blake in positions that he kinda could sorta hold down the spot not in the positions where he could be most damaging .. injurys and lack of personell influenced that..

Acres is the same kind of player as Haydn Crozier when he was traded.

Had shown glimpses, supporter base thinks he was being played out of position, leaves his club to get a solid role and is a decent player elsewhere.

If we trade for Acres then I'd expect his output to be similar to Croziers this year at the Bulldogs.

I rated Crozier when he was traded and wanted to keep him but he was traded for a third round pick.

People are talking about us getting a second round pick for Langdon if he goes. Ed is a damn sightbetter than Acres. Acres is no more than a 3rd rounder.

BHill + Freo 3rd rounder for Saints pick 5 + Acres

Add later picks here and there but that sounds right to me.

Pick 5 + Acres is the most fair deal. St Kilda get an outstanding winger that actually wants to come to them, we get a top 5 pick plus a big body in Acres who gets to come home to WA. Best outcome for both teams. If nothing happens we keep him for 2020 and try again next year.

That is not “best outcome for both teams”
Hill for pick 5
-Or-
Hill and 2019 (or 2020) round 2 pick

If he was out of contract - this would be absolutely true.

However your biggest competitor to gaining Hill is Freo itself.

The value of the pick is relative...if you only had 10 that would be the corner piece of an offer but we'd want nicer steak knives.

Hill has requested to go to the Saints, no other club is in the mix for him, but I’d pay Melbourne’s pick if we were after him and if he wasn’t contracted, because he’s contracted I wouldn’t go after him.

Everyone over rates draft picks, if every top 5 pick becomes the top 5 players from their draft over a 10 year period you’d have the top 50 players in the league. Pick 5 is a potential top 50 player but the draft does not guarantee that.

Brad Hill is a best and fairest winner, very unlucky to not be in the All Aus 40 squad, and the Saints are about to make him a top 25 paid player in the league. He is a top 50 player. Brad Hill is the type of player you’d want your pick 5 to turn out like.

Brad Hill top 50 player vs pick 5 potential top 50. I’d rather have Brad Hill than pick 5. So on value I think he’s worth pick 5 and a sweetener. Then you need to give extra because he’s contracted for 2 years.

I said earlier, pick 5 and 2020 2nd for Hill and 2020 3rd. I honestly think that’s a bargain for the Saints. Really 2 first rounders shouldn’t be out of the question, no idea why the Saints have gone hard for a guy contracted for 2 years.

Saints have gone hard for him because it is the second consecutive year he has asked to be traded back to Melbourne. And from the timeline Hill's manager has described, Freo are willing to facilitate a trade this year.

I’m sure the they will trade him but they’ll be wanting more than pick 5
