List Mgmt. Brady Rawlings | Head of Football Talent (Recruitment, LM & TPP)

He's been at the club and been largely overseeing list management for four full seasons now. How can it be hard to rate his performance?

What major wins has he had that don't involve selecting a player in the top five picks of the draft?
Signing logue was fairly major.

Sheezel and larkey long term are wins.

Managed to keep xerri, not major, but imagine no xerri rn

Ccj was BAD, but hindsight is 20/20, at the time it seemed like a very smart signing.

Wouldn't say he's been terribly bad.

I think last year's draft crop in 2 years will be a real litmus test. If we failed 5 first rounders that will be horrific.

Not gonna hang him on recruiting but the buck absolutely stops with him with contracts.

Simple question to assess him: would we have secured our longer term contracts for less years?

Does anyone honestly think we wouldn't have re-signed LMac with a 3 year offer? Secured CCJ with 3? Stephens and Fisher 3? Corr 4?

I wonder if he's walking around the club embarrassed at the list he's put together after 4 goes at it.
And that he knows another wooden spoon will most likely mean the end of his employment.

His time in AFL football post playing career is going to make for terrible reading considering the positions both West Coast and North find themselves in.

Reckon Jade will give him a job in South Australia after he turfed him back in 2020.

On this maybe you should reconsider about criticising Rawling in regards to recruitment. You mentioned CCJ, Stephens and Fisher above. He would’ve been involved in the recruitment of these guys. Plus Biggie who you’ve been critical off. Sure he ain’t making all these decisions on his Pat Malone but he is the one constant you can point the finger at. :stern look

He has simply made too many errors to be kept in the role, its the most important position in the footy department and he has ****ed it. You need your most elite operator pulling the strings in the role, not this turnip, you literally have no room for error.

Go out and employ someone elite and hand them a blank cheque. I don't trust the club to do it and im betting the AFL will step in to rectify it.

I think Brady is a victim of the same issues we are seeing with players. I reckon it's incredibly unfair to dump all issues with the list at his feet because since getting here he hasn't had the stability of a head coach and head of football that now comes with Viney and Clarko.

Trades like CCJ or Stephens don't just happen because Brady goes and gets them on his own accord. These are requests or decisions that come from the head coach.

What I've seen come into the club has mostly made sense with some players coming in to fill gaps will we wait for our own talent to mature. Some we've brought in are just being average fringe players that suck in a below average team. I feel like the alternative would be going and getting a gary ablett jnr, a high price recruit who could not give less of a f*** about the team who is here only for the money and fails to bring success as our list is too young.

Personally, I like the range of talent that has been brought through since he has arrived, specifically:

  • Ford
  • Powell
  • Curtis
  • Goater
  • Logue

The list was cooked well before he arrived and to lay all of it at his feet is a bit ridiculous.

You're not doing Bigfooty right, you gotta pick a target and go hell for leather proving yourself right.
confirmation bias is king, every tiny tidbit of information you gather, you present to try and suck as many posters into your position as possible.

HOW THE heck DO WE STILL NOT HAVE ONE OR TWO SMALL CRUMBING FORWARDS!!!

Thomas left at the end of 2017.

Small quick forwards and rebounding defenders have been the biggest need for AFL teams over the past decade and we're still struggling to fill them (it does look like we are finally addressing the running defender issue).

Ya need the ball to go into the attacking 50 before you worry about a small forward

Mid season pre season, gold jacket green jacket who gives a s**t 😂 I reckon Kal could crack better defensive teams, win, good pick up
The point being made is we have been pretty poor over the last number of years in identifying good football talent further into the draft or in the rookie or mid season drafts. It sticks out like Dog Balls in the Rawling era. :stern look
