Isnt the whole idea of an autobiography that you tell things how they happened in your eyes.

Jeez if every autobiography followed the 'dont rag on old team mates' method then the majority wouldn't be worth reading.

Usually when you write an autobiography it's about yourself.

Or if you're going to bitch about old teammates maybe wait for those players to retire before releasing an autobiography complaining about them. Maybe Chapman should have addressed his concerns with Goddard when he was actually playing with him, rather than saving his issues to chuck in a glorified gossip piece.

This just shows to me that Goddard is a much better servant to the Essendon Football Club than Chapman was.

This trend of players bitching about other (mostly current) players is pathetic. Kayne Cornes, Brian Lake, and now Paul Chapman are all having a bitch on their way out the door. It's all quite sad.

Will be interesting to read Chappy's account of punching a woman.

He did address it. When Goddard asked where his player was Chappy pointed to his opponant and then asked BJ where his player was?? Which of course he didn't have one. Then after the game told him not to speak to him like that. Which BJ then denied. That's not a good leader or person.

"Hi, my name is Paul Chapman. I played for Geelong and then Essendon - everyone was nice. The End."

That book would suck. And by the little bit that was released, it sounds like he did communicate his issues with Goddard in person. I don't know if you've ever read an autobiography but it usually doesn't just focus on the actions of the subject. They don't exist in a vacuum. They have other people they deal with and those dealings, if interesting, make it into the book. I'm sure dealing with Goddard's strops was one of the more interesting things during Chapman's time at Essendon, unless he wanted to go the REAL tabloid route and write about the drugs stuff.

If you're trying to communicate someone's flawed characteristics you should wait until the person isn't in a highly emotional adrenaline filled state.

He's a passionate person Goddard the bloke hates losing.I admit sometimes he's flies of the handle which makes him look bad but overall he's been a great acquisition for the club.
Chappy and BJ appear to be be similar characters - perfectionists who expect the same from teammates, volatile and opinionated.

Very honest appraisal by Chapman, a man of utmost integrity in the football world. Chapman was a real team leader at Geelong and it showed, he never shirked the issue on field and hasn't done so here. He explains his relationship with Stevie J and we all know the eccentricities of Steve Johnson. Goddard has been pointing the finger for years at both St.Kilda and Essendon. He's not a politician, he is a footballer playing in a team, it's not a bad idea to be "liked" by your teammates than not. Well said Chappy, very honest, open and not afraid of the truth. Goddard was amongst the rumour mill at trade time this year, where there is smoke.....

One dickhead telling another dickhead what he thinks of him.....

insert dis gonna be good black dude with chair!
Well that dickhead is a 280 game, 3 time Premiership, 2 time All Australian and Norm Smith medalist. He might have a fair idea what is required to be a successful team player?

Yes. He should of said something then. However his silence then doesnt make what he wrote in his autobiography wrong.
Not saying it's wrong. Just comes off as petty.

I suppose abit petty. But he has every right to throw it in. My original argument was that he isnt the only player to have issues with BJ. I think we will hear more about this good guy goddard when he and several others retire.

There's nothing wrong with talking to teammates in a direct manner. Just depends on the words chosen when doing so. And more importantly, the actions of the bloke who is doing the finger pointing. I don't know Goddard from a bar of soap but if what Chapman says is true (and I have no reason to think it's not the truth given a history of on-field incidents with Goddard) then it's a sure fire way to piss off your teammates.

Was Goddard ever in the leadership group at the Saints?

Fair to say though that we can add Chapman and Goddard to the "Teammates who didn't like each other thread".

I think the Saints would be very happy that he is not there while they re-build. He just doesn't cope very well in a team near the bottom of the ladder. He may find the next few years very frustrating.
To be fair to him he moved to Essendon to contend and win premierships, I'd be bitter too if everything unravelled like it did as soon as he got there.

Just a horrible human being. He should be shot.

You can be all off those and still be a dickhead you said it yourself 'successful TEAM'
22 players in a team surely one or more is gunna be a knob
