Anyone see the absolute dribble Eddie McD***head said on classified about making the game more traditional and having teams wear their traditional guernsey more often.

I was praying someone, anyone say something about the prison bars but there was no South Australian representation on the show.
Surprise surprise

Honestly, it sounded like Eddie was more against the indigenous and pride round jumpers than anything.

If only we had a high profile media presence of a president who could call it out on National TV, agree and promote the bars....

So some sort of round of heritage you say?

Bringing back heritage round could actually be a way Eddie can get out of the interminable debate without losing face.

Enact the old agreement, and allow ONLY for heritage, I'd be livid if we fell for it (of course we would).

He's already got rid of the debate, haven't heard a peep about it since that big blow up on Footy Class a year ago.

Yep
Its almost as if the club doesnt care...

Of course they care….lol.
Now we’re concentrating on AFLW.
Before there was Covid.
Before that was some other AFL issue…
“We’re in discussions “ translates into “ won’t this white noise go away”

If only we had a club administration that was capable of having more than one project on the go at a time.

The drop in AFL attendances is an interesting case for the next CEO. Does the CEO keep the status quo (in particularly Collingwood) or give more freedoms to clubs to try and attract more fans & members to attend more games and watch more AFL on TV?

This may include more alternate playing strips including heritage, indigenous, charity events, etc... Could the new CEO actually stamp their authority & tell the wobblers that PAFC doesn't need their permission anymore to wear the PB's. The AFL is the only authority to approve or disapprove any strip.

Will the new CEO be a spineless git like Gil beholden to Eddie McGuire or someone with a backbone who does what is fair, not what they are told?

In the Tasmania team thread on the footy industry board earlier this week, I was made aware that the AFL have cut the base distribution by $2mil from $10.45m in 2021 to $8.5m in 2022 and that's all the AFL is offering a Tassie team ie the base distribution.

I knew it was raised last year but I didn't realise it was passed.

Here is the original proposal story last July:
‘Big five’ oppose AFL on $36m redistribution plan

And here is the Jake Niall story from March looking at distributions over the last 10 years that confirm:

All clubs receive the same standard distribution, which was $10.45 million in 2021 and will reduce to $8.45 million in 2022, when Richmond, West Coast, Hawthorn and Collingwood will receive only that amount, with the remainder of the money re-allocated to teams deemed to have the greatest need.

GWS, thus, is expected to get a small boost in funding, while the Bulldogs – who rank only behind the Saints among Victorian clubs for extra funding – will have their funding chopped. Melbourne will also have a reduction after winning the premiership, but they will not be cut as heavily as the Bulldogs, according to competition sources, because the Dogs have had a longer period of profitability.

The AFL view and that of smaller clubs is that this shift to a more genuinely socialised funding system has been successful in that teams such as the Bulldogs and Melbourne have managed to win flags and build stronger balance sheets. It is also essential to the northern market teams, albeit the Swans need much less help than the Lions, Suns or Giants. In a statement on the club funding differences, an AFL spokesman said: “We have a club funding model that is integral to the competitive balance of the competition and supports the notion of ‘any given Sunday,’ and clubs get different levels of funding depending on their individual circumstances.”

The AFL would not respond to specific questions about clubs and their funding.
.................................

So I have been thinking the last few days, if we had a strong balance sheet, strong annual profits, and maybe a super rich benefactor who is willing to pay, we probably could buy the right to wear the prison bars. The AFL is in money grubber mode, trying to reduce debt it took out to get the comp thru covid.

It pisses me off that we would have to even contemplate it but the AFL basically will do anything for extra $$$$ at the moment. But our stability don't rock the boat, and bad luck with what has happened to our China venture means we can't even contemplate it. Pity we didn't have a couple of billionaires on board prepared to offer the AFL $3mil a year to wear it 3 times a year.
