Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

I'm not suggesting Fevola for Bradshaw - but I would think Bradshaw plus pick 39 would've been fairer. Carlton aren't supposed to be getting full value for the guy, he's damaged goods.

I'm happy for you guys to talk me around if it will lessen my stress about this deal.

Well we don't have pick 39 for starters...

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

our attachment to the club is mostly emotional so of course a lot of us are going to have emotional responses to such a massive change.

You were going to be waving goodbye to Bradshaw in no more than 2 years from now. You can't avoid the emotional goodbyes regardless.

Fev could have another 5-6 in him.

I wasn't looking forward to it happening in 2 years, so I'm sure you can get why I'm not happy about it happening now.

Emotion is part of being a supporter.

The club itself exists to win premierships. This deal could be our best shot in the forseeable future, and it doesn't sell out the work the club has done in building for the future,

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

It's not over the line yet. We don't know the full trade details. If the past few days are any indication I hate to think what Gubby and Voss would have given So David Schwartz may be right when he says Carlton are huge winners in this. The devil is in the detail BD.
For all we know they packaged Rich into the deal. I'll start whoop whoooooping when all is revealed Friday 2.10PM

Yeah, my comments are clearly based on the contingency that this deal happens as reported. I've made my feelings clear on Pick 12, Henderson, Rich etc.

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

You choose to have your opinion and I choose to have mine. If when Black is in his last year and is out of form, I still wouldn't trade him for pick one in the draft. That's how much loyalty means to me and is a big reason why I love AFL so much more than rugby league. I understand that loyalty in sport is diminishing these days but that doesn't change my opinion on the matter of loyalty to players. If Bradshaw requested a trade then I would more than happily trade him for Fevola but if it's not the case then it is sad to see such a great club servant traded out of this club.

IMO loyalty is a factor in creating a great club culture. IMO a unloyal club develops unloyal and not as passionate players. Don't blame a Daniel Rich type of player for heading back home in a few years for bigger bucks, because he knows the club would no doubt happily give him the flick for a benificial opportunity of their own.

Success isn't everything.
Fair enough, it's just annoying reading nothing but negativity on this board for the last week or so.

I agree with you - I can't get that excited about barracking for a company

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

Fev has proven he can win a game off his own boot in a one man forward line. Bradshaw is a fantastic support act but he has a lot of very very quiet games and is simply not as gifted as Fev.

Rischatelli shows promise but isn't good enough to make the step up. He is a B grade midfielder and always will be. Certainly replaceable.

As for people not wanting Fev to sign because of a few off field indiscretions, where were you when we signed Martin Pike, Adam Heuskus and Travis Johnstone? And are you also of the opinion that we should delist Albie Proud, Rhan Hooper etc because of their errors in judgement. Be serious - we're here to win premierships not citizens awards. Go and join a rotary club instead.

I have no problems with Fev's off-field behaviour at all - that's his business as far as I'm concerned. I don't like the idea of a long term club man like Bradshaw being pushed out when he can still contribute at a high level. If he wants to go - that's another thing all together.
I guess we will find out tomorrow.

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

If Brown made a complete dick of himself at the Brownlow, would you be happy to trade him for Brad Johnson and Jared Harbrow?

If not, just realise that we are screwing Carlton to an equivalent degree.

TBD, I think you are grossly over simplifying the situation with Fev and the Brownlow... that was simply the straw that broke the camels back. His record of drunken loutish not to mention just idiotic behavior off the field is long and well documented. Add to it his propensity to be a 2 year old on the feild at times and its not all sweetness and light.

Is it a good deal... maybe.

But theres no way we are "screwing" Carlton. We've got a whole lot of work to do to get the best out of him... and to keep him from embarrassing the club in the meantime.

Re: Brisbane Lions Trade Talk Thread 2009

Irel is right though we should wait, the dalziel for Staker and Buchanan deal sounded alot better untill pick 28 was mentioned.
Our pick 12 could be involved, then it would really suck.

The same could have been said about J.Akermanis when he moved to the Bulldogs. I think he's been pretty good for them.

At the end of the day, on-field success is what motivates these types of people to focus on what matters most. Fevola is arguably more likely to be involved in on-field success with the Lions and therefore I have confidence that he'll check his behaviour accordingly.

It sounds silly I know, But I'm worried about Cozi she is going to be devastated over this and trust me shes not the only one :(

Brisbane Lions Trade Thread (#2)

Yep 1000 posts and still 2 days to go.

Vossy has done wonders for bigfooty posting rates this week.
