Please, you wouldn't even know what success means so go away.
LOL. You're correct.

I don't know what's it like to "follow" a team that's gifted success.

Gold Coast and Brisbane are different cities. The people of Brisbane are not (generally) going to support the Gold Coast Suns if the Lions fold.
Its a different city but the dynamics around the team are the same.

Small group of core supporters supplemented with ex-Southerns who follow the sport.

All that will happen is the AFL lose a lot of fans and the TV rights will suffer quite a bit because of it as well.
Myth.

A large % of the rusted-on AFL support in SEQ is people with historical connections to teams other than Brisbane & GC.

Gifted? **** off.

Listen we're not a bloody Vic/SA/WA team. We had completely fair and warranted extra support because we face challenges that none of the other 14 AFL dominated state clubs don't. When something that addresses the inequality that is always going to exist for an interstate is taken away, like it was, of course things are going to turn pear shaped. Of course we have made our own mistakes, clearly, but challenges we face compared to every other club does not help at all. But what annoys me is the AFL are more than happy to help GC/GWS/Sydney with similar help to what we used to have which evens up the playing field but yet we don't get any. We are literally the odd club out in the competition.

So you want help forever? I have yet to see the swans, giants, or suns get given an entire extra football club.

Seriously, Brisbane Bombers - think about it. The Lions need desperate help. Essendon fans are always telling us how there are too many teams in Melbourne. And the EFC itself is utterly stuffed, debt riddled, barely scraping a crowd tonight. At least this way they get to see a team with their nickname run around every week. Opens way for true Tassie team as well. Seamless.

Well, unless Queensland is able to pump out half of the draftees in the draft like Victoria the inequality and disadvantage for us is always going to exist as we're an interstate club. I hope Queensland is able to significantly contribute more to the draft in 50 years time, but it's no quick fix..

Your equalisation assistance got taken away because you were successful and you beat Victorian clubs. The same is happening with Sydney. No one gave 2 hoots when Sydney beat WC, but when they beat a Victorian club there was hell to pay. The same will happen to GC and GWS.

This thread sums it up it seems.

No one is interested in the Lions.
Except for those supporters of clubs that are in expansion markets there has been very little interest/support/acknowledgement that the Lions need or warrant help.

I'm disappointed as the Lions are an important part of the competition and the history of the competition

I'm pretty sure one team has to come last each season. Brisbane have been "bad" for, um, half a season and people want them to receive a priority pick?? They missed the finals by percentage last year.

It's scary how many teams are dependent on the AFL (yes, my team included). Brisbane has a dip in form and the fans desert the Gabba in droves. They really aren't that far removed from the halcyon days of the "dynasty" and they played finals in 2009. The AFL is built on a deck of cards (the same 4-7 powerhouse clubs propping the rest of us up) and, maybe, 2014 is the year we are seeing a tiny wobble.
