Brock Mclean leaves Melbourne

Re: Brock Mclean

I think its a win/win. Carlton get another good young mid to help Judd and Murphy and Melbourne get another first round pick to add to ther already talented bunch of young kids like Grimes, Morton and Watts.

Re: Brock Mclean

Like it for Carlton. Good side kick to Judd.

How would Carlton fit him under the salary cap. McLean would have been on a fortune recently. But anyway..

A lot of Judd's contract was front ended, given the ages of Gibbs & Murph when Judd first started. Now Judd's into his third year you'd imagine his yearly sum would be coming down now

Also, word is Stevo is going which frees up about another $400,000 - $500,000 annually

But Mclean was on a bit

Re: McLean leaves Demons

11 for McLean?

WTF are Carlton using Freo's recruiting panel

If you'd seen him play before, you'd realise that pick 11 is a good deal, especially given what spuds have been traded for teen picks in the past.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

So...where are all the posters slamming Carlton and Melbourne for talking about a trade outside of trade week???

hehehe

I guess Ratten read all of Rick James posts after all.

Re: Brock Mclean

Sounds like it's pretty locked in.

Rare to have a deal involving a first-rounder seemingly agreed 10 days before the start of trade week.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

this guy gave $10,000 of his OWN money in the demons demolition thing, YET 4-6mths later he is leaving. There is something here that is not quite right!!

He is one of the few from Melbourne I actually know the name off a real blow to a club already one it's knees and about to hit the canvas for good

Re: McLean leaves Demons

watch dee's supporters laud this as the trade of the century, claiming that mclean is a crab and that pick 11 will be a star much like jack watts and we will all fear them etc etc.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

This isn't how you do trade!

Melbourne is supposed to say things like Brock is a required player and will be a demon next year.

Melbourne fans then make ridiculous claims for compensation and change there sigs to "give us Judd and Gibbs or psd."

Followed by Carlton fans saying how they dont really want him anyway and he wouldn't be in there best 22 and he's worth a 3rd rounder at best.

After about 3 days of this, Melbourne fans make up rumours from a reliable source about how Richmond have offered pick 3 and Deledio and the only way he'll be going to Carlton is if they better this offer.

At this stage Carlton fans give in to a 2nd round pick claiming that said player will make it to them in the psd anyway because he will ask for $1mil for one year and then sign 2 more years at $10 a year.

Meanwhile Dee's fans start to do up best 22 threads that include Judd and Gibbs while Carlton fans go on about how Melbourne have tp take whatever they offer because they have the upper hand.

This goes on until trade week when the 2 teams actually meet and agree to a fair trade for pick 11 and both sides claim victory.

Thats how you do a trade.:D

Your kidding right? They got rid of $2 million of debt (from memory), they have a great young list building and have picks 1, 2, 11 and 18 in this years draft. They already have a great young backline, will have a potentially great midfield after this draft and have a developing forwardline with Watts and Jurrah.

The Dees are going to be fine. :thumbsu:

Re: McLean leaves Demons

^ exactly.:thumbsu:

There MUST be a story to this, Brock has been upset by something!!!...and such a "deal" would have been in the making for a while!

What are the odds of Melbourne winning the TAC cup ?

PS Get something in writing immediately from the Blues

Re: McLean leaves Demons

Interesting deal indeed.

2 years ago, McLean was argubly the best young tough midfielder going around. He's basically stagnated IMO under Dean Bailey, and I think the Demons have done extremely well to get another 1st rounder to add to their young playing group.

If McLean can get back to the player he was under Neale Daniher (and injuries probably contributed to his poor form over the past couple of seasons), Carlton have done extremely well. He'll give them a real good contested ball play who loves to tackle.

How are Carlton fitting him under the salary cap though? My guess is, they're pushing Stevens out, and going to pay McLean instead.

What's even funnier is that you're probably right:D

Re: McLean leaves Demons

Carlton: beware. He's had two interrupted pre-seasons and will have another one with getting used to VP etc. That is barring injurys that have a good chance of occuring. If you can keep him fit then 2011 will be his year and 2012 he'll have a shot at the Brownlow.

Brock: I'll never forget what you've done for us with donating your yacht but that is the only thing that keeps you above Chris Johnson. You were a future captain FFS and it will be painful seeing you in that scummy shirt
