Brock Mclean leaves Melbourne

Re: McLean leaves Demons

The push for youth at Melbourne has gone too far. A hard bodied midfielder in a fairly lightly built team will cost them in the short term and potentially the long term if pick 11 is a spud.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

So the Dees have 4 picks inside the top 20 now eh?? Very astute work by whoever is pulling the strings at Melbourne.

I know he was a fan favourite but in the wash up I'd be pretty happy with this move if I was a Melbourne supporter. Positioning themselves very nicely for the future....perhaps they actually do know what they're doing after all ;)

Good coup by the Blues.

Was touted as an A-grader early but his development has stalled.

Good career move for him and the Dees IMO.

Blues get that hard type of player they required to take pressure off Judd doing all the in and under work. Will play the role Hadley tried to play.

Could mean Hadley is off to the Lions now.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

Great work by Carlton.

He will release Judd into more of a pack buster like his WCE days. At 23, he will have 8-10 years to play with Murphy (22), Gibbs (21) and Kruezer (20).

The trade is fair, but I agree with AUSSIE GUN that it's gone too far at Melbourne. However, if all he wanted to do was leave, then I guess there is not much they can do.

for started since when was pick 11 a spud?

2ndly if this was 100% Brock's decision then Melboune cant stop him

I guess as they say short term pain for long term gain

Re: McLean leaves Demons

This isn't how you do trade!

Melbourne is supposed to say things like Brock is a required player and will be a demon next year.

Melbourne fans then make ridiculous claims for compensation and change there sigs to "give us Judd and Gibbs or psd."

Followed by Carlton fans saying how they dont really want him anyway and he wouldn't be in there best 22 and he's worth a 3rd rounder at best.

After about 3 days of this, Melbourne fans make up rumours from a reliable source about how Richmond have offered pick 3 and Deledio and the only way he'll be going to Carlton is if they better this offer.

At this stage Carlton fans give in to a 2nd round pick claiming that said player will make it to them in the psd anyway because he will ask for $1mil for one year and then sign 2 more years at $10 a year.

Meanwhile Dee's fans start to do up best 22 threads that include Judd and Gibbs while Carlton fans go on about how Melbourne have tp take whatever they offer because they have the upper hand.

This goes on until trade week when the 2 teams actually meet and agree to a fair trade for pick 11 and both sides claim victory.

Thats how you do a trade.:D

LOL. Its so funny coz its true.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

Your kidding right? They got rid of $2 million of debt (from memory), they have a great young list building and have picks 1, 2, 11 and 18 in this years draft. They already have a great young backline, will have a potentially great midfield after this draft and have a developing forwardline with Watts and Jurrah.

The Dees are going to be fine. :thumbsu:
what he said!

Melb will be fine

Re: McLean leaves Demons

A classic Win/Win trade.

Carlton are loaded with quality kids under 22. And clearly the recruiting staff reckon there are no key position guns likely to be around at pick 11 so great move by blues.

We are approaching regular finals action and 'premiership window', an inside mid to release Judd, Murph, Gibbs is perfect. A better, younger version of Hadley, who they were looking to to fill this role.

Very happy if this trade works out.

And as for the dees - tough calls required during rebuilding and they've made them and in a few years time will have an unbelievable crop of young players.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

So Carlton just got rid of a potential KPP which they are in desperate need of for a meh midfielder, when they already have three who are better quality then him.
Smart move.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

Gutted. The man is a legend. Apparently he and DB had issues.

Good pickup for the blues. Will be able to do Judd's in and under work and should free Judd up to his previous roles.

We better not use this pick for Burgouyne.

Pick 11 is fair

I said IF pick 11 is a spud. I don't know why he chose to move but as has been mentioned, I was very impressed with him when he donated some of his own money to the club so I'm confused why he wanted to leave. Has always come across as loyal.

shan you will get him for free in the PSD - port will be stubbornly pigheadded as usual

I reckon hed be good for you

Rumour has it they're trading him because they were doing their team for a "Your club's best under 21 team in 2010" and he's just too old.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

Brock McLean made a large donation to the Melbourne Football Club at their annual auction little over a month ago. I know this cause I was there. Clearly this trade has been done on his own accord.

I think the coaching staff have had a little chat to Brock about where they see him in the future.

You can't carry three players like Jones, McLean and Moloney in the same midfield. You just can't. Something had to give.

Re: McLean leaves Demons

Pick 11 for Brock McLean is an absolute bargain for Carlton. I don't know what on earth they're thinking at Melbourne. There is no way they will get the equivalent of McLean at 11 in this draft.

Terrible work by the list management people at Melbourne (unless they're hands were tied - was Brock uncontracted ?) and as much as I hate to admit it, kudos to Greg Swann at Carlton.

Could go either way really.

Richmond had 5 picks in the top 20 in 2004.....how's that going for them?
