Traded Brodie Grundy [Traded to Melbourne for #27]

Wright and McRae have signalled how desperate we are to get rid of Brodie. Going to be a struggle to get more then pick 27.
Mad sh*t. This is going to bite us in the a*se.
Don't worry mate. We lost Sam Mitchell for pick 88 and Jordan Lewis for pick 55. Clarko and Wright were pushing our all timers out the door for packs of twisties.

No wonder this deal has stalled. It's probably got some truth to it because he's trying to get Soldo In and Hawks trying to get Meek in was weird moves by both clubs until this move.

The contract is just terrible. Collingwood supporters are entitled to feel irate, but they were ****ed long ago when Ned Guy sabotaged your club. On at least 350k too much and 2 years too many. It's the worst contract almost ever. At least some of the other bullshit contracts were offered to players who were still going to be in their 20s when they finished, not 33-34. He's a 650k ruckman at best and not for the next 5 years. Even if Collingwood are paying 350k x 5, Melbourne are still arguably paying quite a bit in the back end not knowing whether Grundy will play. They could be paying for 2 years with no output whatsoever. Also 29 earlyish next year. I honestly think you're pretty lucky to get 27 even if you are chipping in a chunk of his salary.

He’s still better than Cameron or Cox, would rather ship off Mason instead. I’ll still die on a hill saying the Pies make the grand final this year with a fit Grundy.

You missed your calling….

Has Collingwood decided to reneg on asking price? Sounds like they have after Jackson trade got done.

Poor form if true, hope Dees walk away. Keep the cap space and use Weid as ruck depth in 2023.

Pickup Keeler or another developing ruck at 27.

Pies to continue paying $1m a year for next 5 and miss out on Mitchell.

Not unreasonable of the Pies to be asking the question. Also not unreasonable of Melbourne to say no. Think it’ll get done either way, depending on who blinks first - probably the Pies.
Your posting has been very reasonable in this thread. Both clubs need it done. I wouldn't be against 13 + 27 for Grundy 16 + 41. Gives MFC a decent 2nd pick this year which should come into the 30s when Brisbane's picks evaporate and we can probably get who we want at 16 anyway.

Doubt It maybe its Melbourne not paying as much as Collingwood was told Melbourne Would

Rumour is the deal was a pick between 20-25. Melbourne got 27. So if anything its the other way around. Its fair for the Pies to ask for an upgrade of 16 to 13 or more money payed off. Melbourne might go into next season with 1 AFL standard ruckman.

This. Pies going all in on Cameron and Cox ahead of Grundy seems a little mad!

There’s no win/win in this trade. Either Melbourne gets away with highway robbery or the Pies do. We’ll find out in 2 years time.
Dees are already clear winners. Even if the ruck duo of Gawn and Grundy doesn't work out they still needed another legit ruck on their books and now they have the best and arguably 2nd best in the league, and got him for a steal in both salary and draft capital.

Great deal if he stays injury free. Seems like we'll pay 700 and Pies 300, which is about right considering pick. Dunno how Max and Grundy will work, but keen to see how it plays out if we get that 5 player bench next season.

Pick 27 for Grundy on paper is a great trade.

Still hard to picture how him and Gawn will work together without diminishing each others strengths, but at least the club is being creative here and has replaced a ruckman in Jackson immediately.
