Traded Brodie Grundy [Traded to Melbourne for #27]

Hahaha. Wright and McRae are going to use the ole "We're just trying to fix someones else's mistake to deflect their way away from this epic trade".

s**t deal is s**t. Next you know we'll handover a reasonable draft pick for a guy about to be delisted.
Like a 3rd rounder for Frampton?

Great deal if he stays injury free. Seems like we'll pay 700 and Pies 300, which is about right considering pick. Dunno how Max and Grundy will work, but keen to see how it plays out if we get that 5 player bench next season.
I believe it may well be the Demons pay $700k (Grundy took a slight cut) and the Pies are paying around the $150k.
Sad to see him go, as I would rather have got rid of Cameron and Cox, but as it stands, we have other more pressing holes to fix.

Pick 27 for Grundy on paper is a great trade.

Still hard to picture how him and Gawn will work together without diminishing each others strengths, but at least the club is being creative here and has replaced a ruckman in Jackson immediately.
I'd imagine Gawn plays forward a bit more, Grundy a little bit forward, and combined the little bit of extra time each plays forward (or resting) saves their body a bit more.
I can see the logic in this - both players probably eek out an extra 12 months of career.

Dees are already clear winners. Even if the ruck duo of Gawn and Grundy doesn't work out they still needed another legit ruck on their books and now they have the best and arguably 2nd best in the league, and got him for a steal in both salary and draft capital.
Time will tell.

The salary is good, but it’s for another 5 years, and he will be 29 in April. If they get a flag in that time, then yes.

What if Collingwood wins a flag with Tom Mitchell next year though?

Lose/lose trade IMO.

Collingwood paying another player to run around with an opposition side, Melbourne bring in a pure ruckman who can’t play forward to play a hybrid ruck/forward role - and still paying a decent salary.

The only win is getting out from under that contract it was now or never.

Are you ever really out of it if you are paying around $300k a season for the next 5+ years? I don’t know what the exact amount is but rumored to be close to it. Pies fans will always say it is the lowest they can etc though.
