I think Tone prefers the phrase 'attended to urgent domestic issues'.

attended to urgent domestic issues from a space station orbiting Saturn

They have had a good amount of time to see what Hocking can bring to the role so I am fairly happy with that appointment if it is true.

I heard cRowe on the way home from work the other night going on about how we are finding it hard to attract coaches and we should have announced our appointments by now with training starting soon, blah, blah, blah... you could hear he was having a great time. Seems like rubbish to me, just last year we got Laidley and Hocking over so I can't see it being that big an issue.

An article from about the 6th Oct mentioned that our announcements would be made in a fortnight. I'll start being concerned when it's the 22nd Oct and we haven't announced a full complement.

Listening to what Rowe thinks and anything about what the crows are doing doesn't interest me one iota.

So the fact that we operate in a 2 club town and the other mob are competing with us for assistants isn't of interest? I would suggest we should be moving to lock in our choices asap before they get a potentially more attractive offer.

That would be assuming they are picking asssistants worth getting.

Pop quiz. Which crows assistant has gone on to be a senior coach at another club?

mmm. guess that means if Bassett takes their AC gig he thinks Craig is for the chop & wants to be well positioned. anyway, we're in the market for ACs, it's our sworn duty to inflate the price of anyone heading their way :D

seriously though, Basset gets big raps from some people, may be in the same boat there as say Lade coming back here last year as AC, they may think he has too much personal connection with senior members of their current list.

Adam Kingsley just on 5AA and said Port offered him a new contract but he decided it was time for him to move on.

FWIW Rowe claims that Primus is looking at specialist function coaches, like stoppage coach, defensive pressure coach (that's pressure all over the ground), attacking coach (attacking options from anywhere on the field), etc. He could of course be making the whole thing up.

if someone picks them over us based on money, then they belong at the crows corporation anyway. ;) We'll get what we can get - I understand that, and it applies regardless of the crows being in the market.

I really wonder how much influence an AC would have in a premiership win - would they really influence the likes of Thompson, Malthouse, Roos, Lyon and Choco?

It will be interesting to see who gets the "kick backwards" coaching job or the "handball backwards to a flat footed teammate" coaching job. :)

Ahhhhh, now there's an area we can save a few dollars. No need for a coach in those areas as we have perfected those skills to such a degree that they are beyond improvement.

And as such, the masters we have that are currently playing would surely be able to pass their knowledge of such skills on to our younger players without the need for expensive coaches.

A win for the PAFC.

The coaching panel should be known next week according to an article in today's tiser. It read like the group was probably finalised but the club is waiting for Primus to come back from leave next week to make the announcement. Zac Milbank invoked the journo's best friend when they know nothing, stating 'it is understood' Camporeale, Nicks and Healy are among those being considered.

Nathan Bassett confirmed he will be honouring his three year coaching contract with Norwood and he is very comfortable with the lifestyle that affords him.

Rowe claimed on AA that Port won't return Andrew Jarman's phone calls. :)

cRowe specifically said Rohde wasn't returning Jars' calls. speaks volumes to have your old premiership coach not want to talk to you. gra gra had a moment of lucidity, suggesting Jars would be better in a development role rather than a line AC role, but that perceptions of him might get in the way. I LOLed.

Did he say that like it was a bad thing?

Jars wouldnt know a successful culture if it bit him on the arse and he isnt even smart enough to shut his mouth and tow the party line when Matty is leading us that way.

On paper, easily the worst coaching staff out of every club?

We had a great coaching staff on paper last year and look at some of the crap we served up.

I think the AFL has gone nuts with its Assistant Coach obsession.

As long as you have a good structure, discipline and a game plan that the players believe in you dont need 8 assistant coaches.

West Coast have a great coaching panel, but have recruited players with rubbish disposal and amazingly their assistant coaches havent been able to transform them into a decent side.

As time goes by it more obvious to me that recruiting staff and development coaches are more important than line coaches who appear to simply analyse stats.
