Bulldogs revert to (almost) 1954 jumper

I remember in primary school, when we played footy at lunch all the good players banded together in one team, and the leftovers were bunched in the other.

The former was always the crows. The latter was always Footscray.

The point being that Footscray was always seen as a negative name.

I didn't even know who footscray were then. I supported the Western Bulldogs but being the 7-8 year old kid I was and coming from a largely non-footy family, I didn't have much of an idea.

Though I am a foundation Freo member, I have always maintained some allegiance to the Dogs who I grew up following as a kid over here in the west. Infact I still buy a Dogs interstate membership each year as a gesture of some support. I am really pleased they've gone back to the premiership style jumper. But I think it would be retrograde to revert to the "Footscray" name as well.
But then, that's just me.

Just saying ..... Footscray Football Club, formed 1883, won a string of VFA Premierships in the early 1900's. The name would've sounded pretty good then. The impact of the name changes relative to how the club is going....cf Brisbane Lions 2001-3 to Brisbane Lions 2010...conjurs up different images to me. Western Bulldogs was sounding pretty good only a few years ago. "Western Bulldogs" has served its purpose but IMO (for what it's worth) the original name carries more weight.

I am astounded that anyone would think that name Western is better than Footscray. I'm ashamed of the vocal minority on Big Footy, and most of them are Bulldog supporters, that want to keep the name Western.
Western is such a 'nothing' name, I f#cking hate it.

Can someone with some vision please take control of our club and change the name back to the correct one and consign 'Western' to the history books where it wil soon be forgotten.

PS. The jumper is great
