The famous Burgatron PD is now up on the AFL website.

The players Burgan is tipping Adelaide to draft are:
13 - Lewis Jetta
29 - James Craig
45 - Jack Gunston
61 - Sam Iles
74 - Brodie Martin (rookie upgrade)

Other players linked to Adelaide -
Kane Lucas, Koby Stevens, Jake Carlisle, JMP & Andrew Moore at #13 - Lucas is predicted to be gone by our pick
Ayden Kennedy at #29, though he predicts we may jump early on Gunston.
No other players linked at #45 - looks like Gunston or bust!
Brayden Norris, Matthew Scott, Luke Thompson at #61

Apparently the late mail is that WCE aren't interested in Jetta at #7, probably a wise decision as he's a mid-teens quality draftee. This should see him slide through to us at #13.

Interestingly, Gunston's name was raised on the Who do crows supporters want draft time: (Be realistic) thread the other day by Collingwood supporter f00ty-1S-L!fe. Kudos to them for sharing some good intel!

Sam Iles is a recycled player, having previously played 7 games for Collingwood. Not sure how this gels with comments about not taking recycled players in the ND this year (though it's highly likely for the RD).

Craig was a very good junior ruck and has anice leap, but there's something about that sub 200 height that waries me. We already have 4 rucks who can play other possies.

I'm iffy on Iles, but he has got some potential.

Like Jetta and Gunston.

Wouldn't mind Sheppard, but as Vader said, the late mail is WC have decided its him over Jetta.

If we could get Jetta's tackling up and work rate up, he'd be a massive talent.

But I'll wait for the real thing tomorrow before crituqing our picks lol.

Other players named on the Adelaide Board as being of interest...

Brad Sheppard - #7 West Coast
Kane Lucas - #9 Port Adelaide
Daniel Talia - #11 Melbourne
JMP - #14 Sydney
Luke Tapscott - #19 Richmond
Koby Stevens - #21 North Melbourne
Daniel Menzel - #25 North Melbourne
Callum Bartlett - #27 Brisbane

Luke Ball is now expected (by both Burgan & Quayle) to go to Collingwood at #30, with all the other suitors having had their bluffs called.

Agree with this, why would we want another undersized ruckman? Surely if we are gonig to play someone in that role it will be McKernan.

Not too sure about James Craig. I know Rendell rates him, as I recall an interview he did around the time of the National Championships in which he said that Craig was the best ruckman in the draft with daylight second.

However, he's only 195cm - even if he does have a prodigious leap. That's too short to play ruck in the AFL. He might go OK at the centre bounces, but he'll be useless at throw ins or ball-ups around the ground. See Paddy Ryder for the prototype.

We already have a number of undersized ruckmen who we're trying to convert into dual-role KPP/ruckmen - McKernan & Sellar spring to mind.

If we're looking for a ruckman, I'd prefer one with genuine size. But that's just me...

I wouldn't be against Craig at 29 if it fell out that way. Sounds a bit like McKernan last year, a tall who is thought of as a ruckman and whose obviously athleticism allows him to play other positions as well, but who fell because most recruiters saw him as a ruckman who wasn't tall enough. He could be brought in as a second ruckman if our other rucks aren't performing and eventually settle in a tall position somewhere.

I'd prefer at Bartlett or something like this but I wouldn't be upset with Craig at 29, and Rendell obviously rates him.

I think we will go for James Ezard at 61 as that mature aged player and may draft Michael Coad as a mature aged rookie.

That article does not say anything about us picking up a mature with our last pick, other than the opening line.

Correct me if I am wrong, but i seem to remember last year after we were complaining about not taking the full allocation of rookies, someone had spoken to rendell, and he mentioned a player on his radar, but due to being in the SA pool did not take him as a rookie thinking he would be available this year. (did say if it was a vic boy he would have been rookied) I am also thinking he said it was an indigenous player??

I would like to see Gunston picked before Craig

I don't recall this... not that it's impossible, but I was fairly active on the forums around that time  I'd love to see an old link to it.

I remember earlier in the off-season I had an uneasy feeling about Jetta but I'm not sure what it was. Certainly at the moment it seems like he could fill a definite need for us as a small forward or as a speedy midfielder which we definitely need more of (currently I'm including Cook and Martin as speedy midfielders - not Danger as he'll probably play more inside and I'm not sure what Petrenko's position will be).

Jetta is a freak. Will add spark to our midfield for sure. Sure he goes missing at times and is a tad soft (very outside), but when he has the ball in his hands he won't get tackled, has poise, smarts, excellent vision/decision making and disposal. He is a game breaker and will hopefully be our next McLeod.

I think Burgan might have picked up that we're interested, but just tipping us to pick him in the wrong draft, my tip would be that if we are interested, we'll pick him up in the rookie draft, similar to what we did with Schmidt last year.

Besides this, I'm not sure how much stock we should put into his draft, especially the first couple of rounds. To me it seems he has very little idea about what either Adelaide teams are going to do. For Port all he's done is best KPF, best Mid and best Ruck, with his reasoning for Port grabbing Vardy being that they need a ruck, starting to sound like any other PD'er on BF.

Then for the Crows, he's gone with the old Nuclear Bomb approach, ie if the blast doesn't get them, the radiation will. He's named 7 different blokes under his spiel for pick 13 and then goes on to list about 3-4 others throughout the rest of the draft, just in case we don't pick one of the SEVEN he's already listed.

Generally I think he does a pretty good job, but he I think he may be struggling to pick what Port/Crows are doing, which is not surprising considering both like to keep their cards close to their chest. For the record, the last time he correctly picked a Crows player was Darren Pfeiffer, the closest since was Petrenko, but he had him with our ND 4th rounder, instead of RD 2nd round. Not trying to dismiss the work he does, he generally does quite well, just as a Crows supporter I wouldn't put too much stock into what he says.

I hate these Phantom Drafts. Rendell always goes for a little known player that no one guessed he'd pick in the first-round, so I'll be shocked if our first-round pick is used for Jetta since it was predicted! :p

Name 1.

Davis & Dangermouse were both expected to go in R1, just not necessarily as early as we took them.

When it comes to Dangermouse, most of the BF fans had their usual "Crows are from Adelaide so they'll draft a South Australian" fixation happening, with the blinkers preventing them from seeing any possibility other than Ebert.

Davis missed most of his draft year through injury. Even so, he was still expected to go late in the first round (most likely to Hawthorn).

Having little knowledge on the draft compared to most BF users I have to say that Jake Melksham is one player that really stands out to me, seems like the type of player that would fit nicely into our midfield.
I'm not the biggest fan of taking Jetta, but i think the crows require a player with dynamic leg speed such as himself.
One other I'd like to see the Crows take a punt on, although it is highly unlikely the crows will is Eddie Sansbury (that's if he even nominated like I read he had) The guy is too good to be in the SANFL, and has proven he is a match winner.
