Burgatron 2009 - Adelaide's Targets

As exciting as it is when the 'experts' phantom drafts come out, I am always left feeling unimpressed with Burgratrons draft predictions for the crows. If we do take Jetta with our 1st pick (as it seems likely WCE aren't taking him), I would be left a bit perplexed with that pick, but nonetheless trust Rendell. The reason being, I think we have enough talent who can play the Jetta role, in Petrenko, Martin and Jacky (all similar in terms of Jetta with speed, and all look much bigger and stronger then Jetta, with Jacky and Petrenko being younger then him).

I have been hoping for either one of Melksham/stevens/sheppard/bastinac for some time now, but one that has really intrigued me of late is Moore. There is just something about he seems, and he still seems very raw and Danger like in where he sits in the draft. He's quick, great over head mark and most important of all for a crows draftee he as versatile, as they come. I know the kangas will be loving stoppages with Ziebell and potentially Cunnington lining up in the middle for them, but if we put in Danger and Moore (providing we get him), we'd be an absolute clearance machine team and have the flexibility in our midfield to cause everyone headaches.

From reading most of your thought on Moore, he hasn't got the most warming reviews from some, but I just think his inconsistency and rawness will have him around our pick, and i'm literally praying he land him because he'll offer us much more then Jetta, as someone having A LOT of X-factor, but also the flexibility to play various roles.

Also just on JMP, a lot of recruiters seem to rate him highly, and I won't be against picking him, but just his frame worries me a bit and the fact that he plays fairly outside, but in saying that he's not affraid of putting his body on the line (something i don't see Jetta doing a lot of). He was exceptional for the falcons this year, and they did struggle when he didn't play, but I just can't see him as the prototype mid/hb that the crows go for. Not long too go now, we'll find out soon i guess.

Does anyone know anything about Kade Klemke? Will he go this year?
Oh now your the funny one are you?
If your actually interested he was picked up by Essendon and most clubs were interested in him. No-one really wanted to pick him in the end because of his personality. He was cocky and was very religious and took it seriously which effected the way he played and trained etc.

No, I've heard good things about him.

I heard stuff about him last year, I really was hoping we'd pick him but in the end I guess we didn't which was unfortunate.

But Rendell said we would be taking players who might be a bit older, so I reckon Klemke could be a goer.

How do you mean by cocky and religious? Was he declaring Jihad's on everyone or something? I'm not sure how religion can effect your training, unless of course Sunday morning was the main training session?

But anyway, do you think he has the ability to come into the Crows and help us on our way to a premiership?

most of the BF fans had their usual "Crows are from Adelaide so they'll draft a South Australian" fixation happening, with the blinkers preventing them from seeing any possibility other than Ebert.
same is happening this year
where ever i see polls about who to take. We have the wanna be experts saying JMP or Bartlett
We have alot of 'gotta be SA kids' saying Tapscott
then you have those like me who are like IRWT (In Rendell We Trust)

And if one of these guys are picked will you pull your head in?

why
Rendell doesnt pick those linked to us
so we wont get them

and even by the 1 in a million shot that we do get one of them, ill shutup about them for a while
ill wait a year make an initial assessment
ill wait another year and make a second assessment
at that time ill decide if they will or will not make it

I reckon I could dig up a couple of you mooting that Moran will be a better player than Tippett :p

To be fair, by the end of 2008 Moran had achieved a lot more than Tippett had. That said, Tippett exploded in 2009 and is now so far ahead that it's not funny.

My recollection is that Moran had played one great game, and so had Tippett :p Tippett had just had more squandered chances at that stage. But yeah, I take your point :p

I can recall towards the end of last season nominating Tippett as the next great forward in the AFL so he had obviously done enough to impress me then since I try to avoid over-the-top comments like that. Either way the amount of improvement shown this year is well above anything I expected from him.

Why? You had a go at people for having an opinion on who we will pick. If Rendell picks one of them it validates their opinion,

Oh man - this is quality. Thanks CC, I needed that. Perfect - absolutely perfect :D.

Once again it doesn’t really matter who we draft as long as I don’t hear. They (player drafted) won’t be ready to play senior football for a few years and we see him as a bit of a project or they will spend 2010 doing year 12.

It's not legitimate to have a whine BEFORE we've even used our picks, C98!! :) Save it up for tomorrow night.

If you time it right, you and Riggy could form a whining duet! :)

I hope that Burgatron has got it wrong with West Coast taking Sheppard - he's the lad I'd like to see become a Crow at #13.

I'm with the not overly wrapped in Jetta brigade, but if Rendell thinks he's the right choice at that pick, I'm fickle enough to hop aboard the Jetta train. :D

If we don't get Sheppard my preference would be one of the bigger bodied mid-fielders still available, and there should be 3 or 4 of those still available for Redell to choose from.

I'd be immensely surprised if even a single one of our 2009 picks - save for a late mature ager - played a game next season, this year more than ever. We'll have so many second and third year players, that certain people were screaming should be gifted more game time ahead of anyone 24 or older, jonesing for spots that it would take an unheard of injury run for them to get much of a look-in.

I don't think being ready to play from round 1, 2010 will be high on the requirements list Rendell has at all.

Should this draft from the AFC continue as the last two have, I think we can say that a pattern has been established - the Crows will draft the best player with the most upside, content to leave them in the SANFL their entire first year to develop unless extraordinary form and circumstances open up a place. Readymade isn't a consideration.

Interesting Burgo had no Alex Carey. I really like the way he goes about his footy and would be happy if he was selected late/rookie.

Interesting he has us looking at Sam Iles, had not heard any mention of this until today.

Now! according to Burgan Pick 30 will be Luke Ball. Imagine if we Picked up Ball with Pick 29! That would open a can of worms! I would do it

Luke Ball will be getting paid 500k next year!

Rendell said that would mean he would come in and almost be the highest paid player at the AFC!!!! That is not the way our club works.

Maybe that might happen if Buddy Franklin or Gary Ablett wanted to become a crow....but not for a hard at it midfielder with limited kicking abilities.

If I may ask, why Sheppard? You'd rather him than Lucas?

Of course for all our discussion and effort to try to think like Rendell would to nail down our first rounder, he'll still end up picking one of the ones we've barely spoken about. Probably some bloke named Inktrippit Harroswarth, a powerful long kicking midfielder who was confined to the u17s Christmas Islands football league for all of 2009 due to chronic bursitis, that he could only play through and have heal at the same time by playing solely on compacted Christmas Island bulrush turf. Playing on any other surface would put him back months, and surely out of draft contention. As a result he snuck under the radar, and Burgo's phantom draft will add his name to the raft of players linked to us at the last second.

Bookmark it. :p

Wasn’t having a whinge, was simply stating my dislike of past events and hoping history doesn’t repeat itself.

Who knows what father christmas will bring us tonight??
