Just hope that your coach doesnt say something he doesnt agree with and he sooks up and leaves.

You really need to move on. Balls move has been an unmitigated success for him and the club who courted him, and nothing you say will ever change that.

Perhaps you can stray back on topic? DO you have anything to contribute?

No ones denying that Balls done well. Just dont act that he was the victim. He left because he didnt like what his senior coach expected of him. He then took the best money on offer and left. Dont glorify it.

I will repeat what I said no ones denying Luke Balls done well for Collingwood. He is not a victim he chose to sook and leave his mates like a school kid.

Roger that Timmy !!

Heard Mick on Melbourne radio 3AW suggesting agreements outside the salary cap were the key to Collingwood & West Coast benefitting most from free agency, both money & the sheer numbers that support these clubs - is the salary cap honoured more in word that action?

I've never heard a straight answer whether West Coast were allowed to make Juddy a Visy/Pratt deal, so I'm cynical.

Selwood signs 5 year, 2 million contract. = 200/200/200/200/1200. His final year is veterans listed (10 years service, 30yo) so only a % counts. In the meantime, you've saved 200k pa.

Veterans doesn't work that way anymore so I believe - It is a straight $100,000 not counting in the cap rather than a percentage. The above deal may as well be structured 380/380/380/380/480

There is no real relief to be found in the veterans list anymore. The above was initiated because of free agency

Luke Ball doesn't sook. He probably didn't even cry when smacked on the bum at birth.
Luke Ball didn't take the highest money on offer he took the best fit club. He's on about $100k this year to bring down his 3 year salary.

I can believe St Kilda supporters feeling sad or even angry that they lost him. I can't believe St Kilda supporters can have anything but respect for the bloke. I had nothing but respect for the way he played when he was at Sk Kilda. I have vivid memories of him being hardly able to stand up after a half time rest and still coming out in the second half and giving his all. His character is measured by his lack of comment on his disparture and his reaction and respect in the immediate aftermath of the 2010 GF replay siren.

If you don't respect Luke Ball as a player and person you aren't worth respect yourself.

Just can't believe the Luke Ball hype.
Apparently now he REGULARLY slots goals from outside 50, runs quicker than Buddy and helps old ladies cross the street on days off...(possibly true that last bit)

As a Saints fan I know this:

Luke Ball was second highest paid player on our list thanks to Grant Thomas (who also decided in his wisdom Ball would be a better player than Judd over time....but thats another story..)

Luke Balls output at St Kilda was absolutely NOT commensurate with that salary.

Luke Ball was offered a reduced contract at St Kilda

Luke Ball chose to leave.

I also know for a FACT that Luke Ball means/meant more to Collingwood (who had Obree as their ...Lenny Hayes...:D)....than he did and still does to St Kilda. It is true Ball was up against Hayes for that role...and Im sorry but I'll take Hayes anyday even at 32 - Ive SEEN Hayes dominate games including a GF......Ive NEVER seen Luke Ball do that.

Im not being a sm@rt @ss when I say...the Luke Ball I watch running round with Collingwood today is an ok player, he aint no star, he still struggles to run out of sight and kicking is suspect. Nothing against him and good on him for going where he was most needed ....but Im certainly not upset Luke Ball is no longer second highest paid player at our club...for that output (I do blame Lyon for failing to get a pick in return - that was his arrogance).

Sadly, what St Kilda needed when Ball departed really was speed in the middle. We needed run, carry and ability to slot a goal from 50 as our mids were one paced. In defence of Lyon he tried to get that in Lovett......the rest is history.

Good luck to Luke Ball - but seriously, his worth to us was much less than Collingwood (and its no surprise he's benefited from the arrival a great ruck in Jolly at Pies......Hayes wont have that luxury this year).

Has his performances with Collingwood proven to you at all that he would have been worth it had your ex coach known how to use him?

Lyon has hardly been proven wrong.

Said ex coach as quoted in Misson's book ,said of Ball "the microscope started to sharply focus on his ability to run and spread and keep up with an opponent". In the last 2 years his direct opponents have won a Norm Smith (Hayes) & been runner up (Selwood).

As we've seen again tonight, he's a solid $250k a year player who gets exploited when the game opens up - & St Kilda were more than happy to pay him that $250k.

Its pretty obvious down at pie land after your career you will be looked after... Gives you a good incentive to stay

Presti - Merch manager
Rocca - assistant coach
Tarkan - Vfl Coach
Licca - CTV

just a few examples. We could easily create cushy jobs and afford to pay them. Obviously not the same for teams like port and north

Which begs the question as to why pick 30 and a player wasnt enough for StKilda if they only thought him a 250 k player.

Collingwood valued him at 300k.....first two years at about 500 and next two at 100.

Is Geelong struggling for cap space?

Seems a little odd considering the amount of money we have dumped the last 2 seasons.

Ottens
Ling
Mooney
Ablett
Rooke
Blake

Thats a lot of money gone from the cap.

a) They were happy to pay him $250k
b) They didn't rate pick 30 in that particular draft much higher than the 60ish they had in hand
C) the players requested weren't put on the table

Collingwood valued him at 300k

and signed him on $1.2m for 3, no wonder the salary cap is bursting ;)

Your obsession with bagging Ball is really pathetic.

Heard of a bridge?? Build one.

it will be interesting to see how the AFL manage that alongside the new FA system, the potential for rorting is definitely there.

When Collingwood appoints an ex-player into an ambassadorial role to teach the world about recycling, I will be concerned. Current roles being filled are all legitimate.

'the potential for rorting is definitely there', wait for it.....

....even outside of Collingwood
