Cale Morton, is he the best young player in the game?

Could you elaborate please, I'm intrigued at what you would classify as quality and pure hype.

Every Collingwood rookie that has debuted in the last 5 years. Go have a look back through the Beams / Sidebottom threads that have been pumped out if you need your memory jogged.

Beams has shown quality in his short career thus far. Sidebottom performed well in his debut game to boot.

Here I was thinking that Cyril Rioli was the best youngster in the game.

People forget that the kid is still a teenager.

Cale Morton is actually younger than Rioli.

Nether the less it doesn't really matter both very good young players out of the 2007 draft.

if only Mitch Morton had've stayed in our team and played half decent, I could have trotted out the line that Ian Chappell said when asked whether Steve Waugh was the best batsmen in the world: 'He's not even the best player in his family.'

Haha was just thinking earlier that I would have used that line had the thread been about another Morton brother. :thumbsu:

I can't believe that nothing has been made about this kid.

34 touches and 16 marks on the weekend and is averaging 25 touches for the year.

Drafted pick 4 in the 2007 draft.

Is he the best youngster in the AFL?

(For those who say Selwood, Selwood has the likes of Ablett, Bartel, Corey and Chapman helping him, Morton has no-one.)

He's good but you lost all credibility with talking down Selwood, he has stepped up every game Ablett has been out. It's almost as if the Maestro hinders Selwood.

Hey I can stand around the backline getting uncontested marks and kicking back and forth to the same player to!

:D
I think Morton has had a better start to his career than Andrew Mackie...
He isn't an inside player, and he isn't quick (or slow), but he is the best kick from the 2007 draft, as you will see in time. Don't have to believe me now.
Hmmm, Trent Cotchin might have something to say about that.

Here I was thinking you're another Hawthorn flog.

There isn't a better teenager in the game than Kreuzer who has to compete in the ruck against man mountains.

Yet can still play like a midfielder and win the ball around the ground.

Kreuzer is a freak.

I saw the game on the weekend, he was spare man in d50, yes thats alot of touches, but alot of the times it was switching sides of the grounds,

Out of curiosity How many of the 36 were contested?

4 contested possessions
1 contested mark

according to afl site ;)

Pretty damn good for a skinny bloke on the weekend I must say. His kicking was good but he was never really that damaging. Still one of the best young players in the league no doubt and he's finding some consistency in a losing team. Such a shame the AFL changed the rules so we couldnt get him.

You can't compare all these young guns (Rioli, Kruezer, Selwood, Morton) all have got different roles!!

Can't everyone just see, Morton was drafted as an outside accumulator with a massive engine, and thats what he is. He will be one of the best types of these players in the league over his career and is an important player in a teams structure, especially coming out of D50.

If we wanted someone to jump in and get the hardball we would get another Moloney, McDonald, McLean, Jones etc. First we have been bagged for having too many hard nuts who are in and under, then Morton cops it cos he is an outside soft player!!

I dont know whether it is his kicks inside 50, but for someone who averages around 4 a game, he has 1 Goal Assist all season.
I would put a lot of that down to Melbourne's lack of forward targets. Who cares about those stats anyway, if you watched him on the weekend you would have to be impressed.
