Talks between the Blues and Greater Western Sydney for defender Caleb Marchbank are yet to significantly advance with the deal likely to involve an exchange of first-round draft picks and players. Carlton's pick No. 5 appears certain to be involved in the deal with the issue being what level of compensation comes back to Carlton along with Marchbank in that exchange.

The Giants' first round pick is currently 15 but they also have Collingwood's first round pick (7) that was traded as part of the Adam Treloar deal last year.

If the deal involved pick 5 for 15 and Marchbank, Carlton would want another GWS player to sweeten the deal. Who that is and the quality of the player is where negotiations will centre.

This would be about right. Any add ons like Stewart/Pickett/Other fringe player are not going to make the deal worth enough to get pick #5 on its own. Its not NBA Live 96, where you can trade a whole heap of junk for a star cause the total values equate.

Didn't say it wasn't. Just adding some perspective to something that could be seen as something it wasn't: ie something other than speculation, such as "actual information" as you put it.

I dunno a ten pick downgrade and players taken with picks 4 and 6 just two years ago by the same recruiter. I can't see SOS passing that up even though I wish we could find another way.

Even so, I'd still pull the tigger on trading 5 if it got us Marchback and 2 of Pickett/Tomlinson/Late first rounder/Adhern/Corr/Stewart

Yeh, in principle it's an OK deal if Jaksch is a genuine top 10 player. But he's shown no signs of that, really, which is hugely disappointing.

Fast forward to now... if #5 goes out for (say) Marchbank and #15..... it is OK *if* Marchbank is a genuine top 10 player.

Maybe we're right this time? Maybe last time was a one-off mistake? Or maybe it's a terrible idea.

Still got Marchbank and Pick 15... only 2 of the 3 have to come off to win such a deal.


So far Jaksch, Boekhorst and Whiley all look unlikely to play 100 for us.

Jaksch and Marchbank both high draft pick KPP's who are unprovern.
Stewart and Whiley both good NEAFL players who apparently will become afl standard with us.
I think this is why Carlton supporters are so worried about this trade it certaintly has a lot of similarities. For me Pickett has to be involved before Stewart or I just wouldn't do it.

Marchbank is worth a late 1st early 2nd. For pick 5 we really need a player that will play 200 games for us as that is what we could expect from a pick 5. That's not a whole heap of junk players that will all spud it up for 40 games till we delist them.
