Its not Hogan we're talking about but rather a player with 1 good year.

Think about it.

Our pick this year will likely be near on #20 once all the compo picks get put up plus it's touted as a very weak draft so we may not even secure a good player with that pick anyway. Now, the following year we might have a pick between 5-20. Regardless of the quality of the draft, we probably wouldn't hesitate taking a McCarthy type player anyway so this way we actually get a player that has proved his worth at an AFL level and keeps our window is ever so slightly open.

If we do get McCarthy, just hope we play both Tabs and Cam all season. Need to develop them both and gain confidence. None of this kick 2 goals one week and dropped the next. McCarthy will replace Mayne as the second/third forward. Can't see where Chris will get a game.
Like this team. Croizer can play more a HF/Wing type role as he has the tank and speed for it. That means Walters will stay primarily up forward where we need him the most- often times when he does go up the wing, we have no smalls hanging around the 50.
Crozier IMHO is better value to us in the forward pocket since it is his natural position .With him there Walters can play as a HFF which is a better position for him as a developing midfielder.

Player manager Colin Young says Harley Bennell is set to join the Fremantle on a three-year contract.

Young says the Dockers have spoken to Gold Coast and are keen to get something done quickly.

Says he is unsure what the Dockers will give up but believed they "wouldn't be stupid about it" and the deal should progress next week.

Sounds reasonable. Just the issue of needing 2-3+ extra goals a game, Walters is the only consistent forward the past two seasons. Walters definitely has the skill and talent to play midfield, but in the way that Cyril Rioli goes about it. Cyril goes under the radar around the stoppages then swings forward at ease. Hardly gets sucked into leading up the ground and help out in defence.

You wonder if it is a priority to get it done as early as possible so we can move onto McCarthy or if we prefer to do McCarthy first?

He is a natural midfielder / wingman, not forward pocket.

exactly
i think our situation (lacking tall forwards) is being exploited by GWS
no way any other club would cough up two first rounders for McCarthy, maybe Hogan/Kennedy/Roughead/Walker/Cameron are worth that, but not sunshine

Well thats the nature of contractual negotiations, you exploit the other parties weaknesses to arrive at mutually agreeable position, but the fundamental difference between McCarthy and Danger IIRC is that Cam is contracted to GWS until 2017. Whereas Danger is RFA.

I think they want to get the Bennell thing done as quickly as possible because he is pretty certain. A lot will have to play out with the McCarthy thing so we may need time and clarity to work on some alternatives.

Unlucky Docker Anthony Morabito continues to wait to see if Fremantle will offer him another contract.

But the triple knee reconstruction recipient has been training strongly in recent weeks, after a club direction to holiday overseas for 4-6 weeks and avoid exercise has seen his battered joint improve.
His manager Colin Young says Morabito will have a meeting with the Dockers next week but was training well with his knee in near "perfect condition" after the enforced break.

Think you've got it the wrong way around coulda, IMO Croz is a natural mid and Sonny is best left close to goals since he's clearly our best forward.

Just a flashback to the Herald Sun/ChampData comment of Top-30 Prospects in the 2013 Draft.

14. CAM MCCARTHY
Contested marking machine with a big tank. Could be a unique key forward who pushes up to the wing.

The leaping forward hasn’t played since he broke his leg in the final game of the under-18 championships, but that hasn't really affected him as a top draft prospect. McCarthy is the second best tall available in the draft given his marking ability and goalkicking. The West Australian is tall and athletic and covers the ground well, making him sought-after.
2x 1st Rdrs* for a ready to go key... probably sounds right and worth the gamble for a WA lad!

* - Contract to stipulate no mustache + manbun allowed at FFC :)

Ok got some second hand info from someone that had a chat with cam (one of his mates). Cam reckons he is not going back to sydney no matter what........ he has been told by lyon that WHEN (maybe if) we get him pav will go around 1last time to help teach him and when pav goes sunshine gets 29!

Apparently all the goss in nsw is that buddy got a 3rd strike fwiw

*Not a super trusted source*

I hadnt even thought about who would wear 29 next................

Still don't know we aren't chucking all these picks and players at Melbourne for hogan.

Contracted for the same amount of time and Melbourne could do well with one of our mid-tier mids

Getting McCarthy will be hard enough. Melbourne would probably burn the MCG down before trading for Hogan.

I'd love him in Purple but no way until he's out of contract. No. Way.
