We can safely assume that McCarthy won't be at GWS next year as long as Freo can come up with a suitable trade for his services.

If all things remain the same (they will win some games) you can expect that Freo will end up with a top 4 pick. I have GWS just missing out on the finals again and finishing 9th.

I'm not sure of end of round compo picks for either side but GWS will be picking up Collingwood's 1st rounder for Treloar which will be around the #6 mark.

That being the case Freo will have 4 & 22, GWS will have 6, 10 and 28.

Without seeing this thread turn into the old one on this board, I'm interested to see what people see McCarthy's trade value will be at the end of the year.

No end of round compo picks any more.

In addition to Collingwood's first rounder GWS also have Geelong's first rounder and Adelaide's second round pick, and as go_the_dockers mentioned, Fremantle have traded this year's second rounder to the Gold Coast.

GWS could end up with 6, 10, 16, 28ish and 30ish before even starting.

Second rounder. He hasnt played for a year, is out of shape and has mental health issues.
GWS were stupid not to take the initial deal offered by Freo.
I get what they were trying to do but in hindsight it has the reverse effect and cost them first round picks.

I still think it was the right move, even with hindsight. It sent a message to players that they will not be leaving under contract. And TBH, they're not gonna be short on picks.

Freo fans are kidding themselves if they think their second rounder will seal the deal. This guy above me thinks a third rounder could do it.

He's not sitting on his couch at home downing beer and KFC every day, he's remaining very fit and healthy with South Fremantle preparing for 2017. He is obviously not worth as much as last year, but you're still looking at a Top 15 pick and a later pick

The man has just turned 21, downed 30-40 goals last year after playing just one game the year before, and is in your forward line for a minimum of ten years.

Tomlinson and maybe another will most likely request trades. Cam still has another year to go on his contract so suggestions of third rounder will be enough will probably be laughed at. We will be after 2017 picks so where Freo finish this year is largely irrelevant.

How much do Fremantle need their first pick if they're getting one of the top young key forwards n the country?

FREO: Give 1st Rounder (1-4)
GWS: Give McCarthy and later 1st rounder (Geelong's first rounder - 9-16)
and maybe a swap of 3rd and 4th selections in Fremantle's favour.
I think this is spot except if they get pick 1. Turing a high pick into 2 quality youths is a better fit but pick one comes with other baggage.

After the 2001 draft disaster GWS might have to offer a Lil more to grab that. Mainly marketing purposes for Freo because of the potential uproar. They will have to come out of it looking clear winners.

Agree here, not sure what your academy kids for next year look like but you are sorted already for this year.

Lol.
Not happening.

Good luck for the future then. You'll need it.

So he's not played for a year and has mental health issues but is still worth a first and a later pick.

Ok then.
With the first top ten pick we've had in 7 years we're not doing that...

Mental health issues is just a cover-up for mummies boy. Very easily worth a first rounder and more. Kicks 36 goals in basically his first season of senior footy, having only played one game the year before. If you're going to let this one go, then may God kelp your football club.

So yeah...not grabbing McCarthy for 2015/2016 first rounders has worked in our favour.

Second round at best, and given where we look like finishing, that could be a third round

Well no. He's worth less now but you traded your second for a guy who hasn't played for you, and GWS won't take a third. So it looks like whatever high pick you get you will have to use (with something coming back the other way) if you want him.

No way will Freo traded their top pick, but also I doubt GWS wants it if they calculate that they've got enough points for their academy guys. I suspect something with Freo's 2017 first rounder for McCarthy and some return on picks from GWS might be requested from the GWS end if it goes ahead.

And yet you guys really really want him still. You good hearted souls you.

So i guess we are doing you guys a favour keeping him under contract then.

I could see a pick swap of 2017 picks.
We have 14 players to shift out in 2-3 drafts.
We cannot give away any more picks
